Sullivan’s Sluggers Gets Funded In Less Than A Day

Yesterday we did a bit of press for Mark Andrew Smith and James Stokoe’s “Sullivan’s Sluggers” which, after a long delay, was put on Kickstarter to fund the final production of the book. While it only needed $6,000 to be fully funded, it managed to meet and go beyond this goal within four hours of being posted online and has now taken $21,000 in pledges with a month still left to go. All things considered, that’s pretty amazing.

The question we have is, how much further is it going to go? With a month left to get pledges, there’s no reason to believe the book can’t end up in the top ten most successful Kickstarter pledges. After all, Womanthology took in $109,301 on Kickstarter and the Graphic Textbook has taken in $77,420, both of which have exceeded their initial goals, and the Image series Carbon Grey managed to get a new volume via a Kickstarter fund that exceeded its original goal as well (not to mention the million plus dollars Order of the Stick got). Given the massive amount of positive press the book has received so far, this can quite easily make it up there.

Not that we (or I) have any stake in the game, but we’d love to see it happen. Remember: the only way you’re gong to get a copy of this book is if you pledge to the Kickstarter, and based on the art alone the book is certainly a contender for one of the best graphic novels of the year. You can spare $30 for a pledge.

I suppose now would be a good time to check out things like Orc Stain, Won Ton Soup, Amazing Joy Buzzards, the New Brighton Archaeological Society and Gladstone’s School for World Conquerors as well, no?

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
