Here’s a big surprise: we love Grant Morrison at this site. However, I (although I can’t speak for the other members) don’t read a lot of non-comic books… unless it’s non-fiction. For some reason, I really enjoy reading non-fiction when it’s not in comic book form. So aren’t we all lucky that Grant Morrison has written a non-fiction book about superheroes?

Oh, and on top of that, the DCU Source Blog has revealed the cover to said book.

With a cover taking panels straight from All Star Superman, the book is described by Austin Trunick as an enlightening, in-depth journey through seven decades of costumed superheroes, from the big ones like Superman and Wonder Woman to the most obscure, forgotten caped vigilantes.” Certainly that’s enough to sell anyone, given that the book is a tremendous look into Morrison’s inspirational well.

The official synopsis for the book goes as follows:

From one of the most acclaimed and oracular writers in the world of comics comes a thrilling and provocative exploration of humankind’s great modern myth: the superhero.

For Grant Morrison, possibly the greatest of contemporary superhero storytellers, these heroes are not simply characters but powerful archetypes whose ongoing, decades-spanning story arcs reflect and predict the course of human existence: Through them, we tell the story of ourselves. In this exhilarating book, Morrison draws on history, art, mythology, and his own astonishing journeys through this alternate universe to provide the first true chronicle of the superhero-why they matter, why they will always be with us, and what they tell us about who we are.

On top of that, you (like me), can pre-order this book now at Amazon.com

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
