“Superman: Doomed” #2 Brings Massive Change to the New 52 [Spoilers]

Today, “Superman: Doomed” #2 hit stores (almost a month late), and the final page is sure to send reverberations throughout the entire – and we mean entire – DC Universe. If you don’t want to be spoiled, please turn away now. I’ll even put this nice picture of the Fonz here to distract you if you don’t want to see this.

So, the arc wraps up with Brainiac (the real big bad) and Superman in space, and Superman pushes Brainiac through a black hole, where we see text suggesting him being collected into something not too dissimilar from the shattered source wall from “Infinite Crisis” – but this time, all the shards appear to contain the pre-New 52 universe.

And, we’re not just talking pre-“Flashpoint” – but potentially pre-Crisis. We see the Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans, Ted Kord Blue Beetle, the old Justice Society (with Huntress as a member), Batman with giant ears, Superman in red trunks, Plastic Man, the Legion, and more.

So, what does this mean? Does it mean that these are the forgotten memories of the past universe? Does this mean that the universe still exists? Is this the same “not quite pre-Flashpoint universe” that “Justice League 3000” will be borrowing Booster Gold and Blue Beetle from in December? Is this, as Rich Johnston suggests, the start of the DC “Band Aid?”

All I know is that this is going to make things a lot messier – and perhaps, a lot more fun – for the next six months or so of DC Comics.

Check back next week, when a full review of “Doomed,” with further analysis on this final page, will be on Multiversity.
