Superman In Handcuffs For New Man Of Steel Poster

In the lead up to the promised new Man Of Steel trailer attached to The Hobbit what looks like a new poster has been uncovered through the film’s Facebook page, of all places.

Now, I don’t want to be the resident stereotypical Superman fan, but this poster is the first part of this movie that has me slightly worried for one reason: it’s a bit too New 52. In the New 52 we’ve seen Superman constantly hounded, attacked and captured for the fact that he’s an alien on Earth. And that’s never sat right with. Superman is meant to inspire, not be mistrusted.

But I’ll shut up until I see the film or the new trailer. What do you folks think?

Actually, this fits with the Smallville presentation of Superman being hounded by the government along with other metahumans. Frankly, if Superman existed in our world, he would be demonized (probably literally by the religious right) by politicians who couldn’t control him. Also, didn’t DC have a great Elseworlds book where a “real life” guy named Clark Kent developed Superman’s powers but was coerced to aid the U.S.?

Two things that are interesting to me: 1) The style is very reminiscent of the posters for the Dark Knight, particularly the latest one and 2) Would it have killed them to do a more iconic scene, like Superman breaking out of the chains. I know it’s been done to death in comics, but not for a movie. Hopefully their reasoning is that this scene will have a LOT of meaning within the narrative of the film. But man, if you’re rebooting Supes, do it with a “BOOM!”

It’s similar to the beef I had with all the Avengers posters. Would it have killed them to have at least one that was a tribute to the Avengers #1 cover?
