Poor Superman. First he is abandoned by his writer, then he’s the center of two controversies, and now DC has confirmed they are twisting his life upside down.

In news revealed found at TMZ and Newsarama, it looks like Superman and Lois Lane are going to be divorced at the beginning of September’s DCnU reboot. Not just divorced, however – like a certain story at another publisher, it looks like Flashpoint will have changed history to the point that the two will never have been married in the first place. On top of that, Superman’s adopted parents Jonathan and Martha Kent will now both be dead (as opposed to just Pa), which changes continuity back to pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths for the character. Superman’s alien heritage will also be a bigger part of the book, with his new costume now being “ceremonial armor” from Krypton, hence the lack of underpants on the outside.

The story will be split into two books. Action Comics, written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Rags Morales, will tell the early years of Superman where he can leap tall buildings in a single bound but not fly about in space as his powers are still in development. Superman, written by George Perez and illustrated by Jesus Merino, will be the “new status quo” of Superman, and will feature a brand-new villain who is more powerful than Superman.

Poor Superman. I guess now, when Batman screams “My parents are deaaaaad“, he won’t be alone.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
