MTV’s cancelled series, Sweet/Vicious is returning as a comic book of the same name. The comic book series will be written by series creator Jennifer Kaytin Robinson at Black Mask Studios.

Cover by Skylar Patridge

The TV series followed two college students, Jules and Ophelia, who, as a secret vigilantes, targeted sexual assailants on their campus. The comic book continue the pair’s endeavour and will have a larger feel than the 10 TV-episode run by utilising Robinson’s plans for the second season which was to target the institutions, rather than the individuals, because, as she describes, “it’s the institution that allows for this to keep happening.”

In an interview with Vanity Fair , Robinson describes how the project had entered into the early stages of development at Black Mask shortly after the show’s cancellation in April 2017, but following Brett Kavanaugh’s Senate Judiciary hearing last week, the project has gained momentum. In fact, just this weekend, several artists, including Kiki Jenkins (“Idolon”), Emily Pearson (“The Wilds”), and Maria Llovet all approached Robinson to illustrate the series, with the official cover for the comic belonging to artist Skylar Patridge. Robinson credited them each for capturing “Jules and Ophelia in their own way, with such raw intensity — while still representing the fun, anarchistic feeling of the series.”

“Sweet/Vicious” is scheduled for release in early 2019.
