DC is revisiting some hits from the past with a new twist in “Tales from the Dark Multiverse.” The series promises a “terrifying spin” on some of DC’s most famous stories. “Knightfall” and “The Death of Superman” will be the first two getting the Dark Multiverse treatment in 48-page prestige format one-shots.
The Dark Multiverse was established by Scott Snyder in the ‘Dark Nights: Metal’ event, as well as the subsequent ‘New Age of Heroes’ line of comics. The Dark Multiverse storyline has continued throughout “Justice League,” “The Batman Who Laughs,” and more, nearly two years after its introduction.
In “Knightfall,” we pick up the story 30 years after Jean-Paul Valley takes over the mantle of Batman from a broken Bruce Wayne. His new Saint-Batman has turned Gotham into his paradise until the Son of Bane arrives. On the Superman side, Lois Lane becomes the Eradicator–taking on the corrupt world Superman could never save.
“Knightfall” will be co-written by Snyder and Kyle Higgins, with art by Javier Fernandez, and a cover by Lee Weeks. “Death of Superman” comes courtesy of writer Jeff Loveness, with art by Brad Walker and Andrew Hennessy, and another cover from Weeks. Both one-shots will be available just in time for Halloween -“Knightfall” on October 16th followed by “Death of Superman” on October 30th – for $5.99. DC will also be re-printing the original stories, or at least one piece of the original stories, available for $1 on the same release date as the new one-shots.
Future titles in the series will include “Infinite Crisis,” “The Judas Contract,” and “Blackest Night.” Read the full press release below.

Beginning in October, DC’s most talented artists and writers will take fan-favorite events from the DC Universe down a dark and twisted path.
TALES FROM THE DARK MULTIVERSE: BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL #1
Co-written by Scott Snyder (DARK NIGHTS: METAL, JUSTICE LEAGUE, THE BATMAN WHO LAUGHS) and Kyle Higgins (DEATHSTROKE, BATMAN ETERNAL, NIGHTWING: THE NEW ORDER), with art by Javier Fernandez (JUSTICE LEAGUE) and a cover by Lee Weeks (BATMAN), this one-shot takes place in a Gotham City 30 years after a broken Bruce Wayne failed to take back the mantle of the Bat. Each of these prestige format one-shots is 48 pages long at a price of $5.99.
