Either way, it looks like Thor is being replaced by a new God of Thunder – TANARUS. Who he is and what his purpose is is up in the air at the moment, but it’s safe to say that this is tied into Marvel’s upcoming Battle Scars.
When we last saw Thor in Fear Itself #5, he beat the tar out of the Thing and the Hulk, before collapsing. Given that the cover of issue #7 of the Mighty Thor and the Fear Itself #6 teaser seems to hint that nothing good will happen to Thor (with Steve Rogers admitting in issue #5 (spoiler alert) “We’re going to lose.”) So hey, why not replace him with Tanarus?
Given that Fear Itself and the Mighty Thor have been teasing that the Asgardian pantheon as we know them is not the only Asgardian pantheon that exists, it’s plausible to posit that Tanarus could be the Serpent’s equivalent to the Thor who comes in at the last second in Fear Itself to kick some tail. But anything is possible at this point.
