Eric Powell’s publishing company Albatross Funnybooks has a major new addition to its slate in the form of Tank Girl. The character will debut under writer/co-creator Alan Martin and artist Brett Parson in the prequel series “King Tank Girl.”
“Alan Martin and Brett Parson have been doing some amazing ‘Tank Girl’ stuff lately, and Brett just did a run of ‘The Goon’ for us,” said Powell. “They kind of approached me and were like, ‘Hey we’re looking for another home for Tank Girl would you be interested?’ And, you know, of course I was interested because it fits right in with everything we’ve been doing.”
The series was originally set for a July debut but because of the ambiguity cast by COVID-19, “King Tank Girl” is simply set to release this year. “Yeah this whole COVID thing really screwed up our summer announcement plans,” Powell said. “So this was supposed to be our big announcement that was launching in July. Our big Comic-Con push. Comic-Con is now canceled and we’re scrambling to try to figure out when our releases are actually gonna happen. But, since it’s the apocalypse, I thought everybody would like to know that Tank Girl is coming to Albatross Funnybooks.”
Tank Girl was created by Alan Martin and artist Jamie Hewlett in 1988. Previous series were published in British magazine Deadline, and at Dark Horse, Vertigo, IDW Publishing, Image, and Titan Comics.
“King Tank Girl” #1 features a main cover by Parson and a variant by Powell.
