DC Comics have announced “Suicide Squad” will be relaunching this December with writer Tom Taylor (“DCeased”) and artist Bruno Redondo (“Injustice: Gods Among Us”). The new series will see Task Force X, now under a new, mysterious leader instead of Amanda Waller, being sent to take out a terrorist group known as the Revolutionaries – and things become even dicier when the Squad learn that the surviving Revolutionaries are going to be their newest recruits…

In an interview at The Hollywood Reporter, Taylor claimed that the Squad had begun to feel safe, and that in his run, “The team we send out in issue one won’t all live through the first mission. DC characters with years of history are going to be confined to history after issue one. Truly, no one is safe.” The initial roster will consist of Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Cavalier, Shark, Zebra Man, and Magpie, before introducing new characters like the Aboriginal Australian Thylacine, and the teleporter Wink.

Taylor and Redondo have previously worked together on the “Injustice” comics. “Bruno and I have been working together for around eight years and he’s one of my favorite artists in the world,” said Taylor. “We speak the same storytelling language and we have the same storytelling values. Getting to create all new characters with Bruno for DC is a bit of a dream.”

The new “Suicide Squad” #1, which will be 40 pages long and retail at $4.99, will be released on December 18, 2019. It will be available in a cover by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado, and in a variant by Francesco Mattina.
