DC Comics have announced that, as part of 2023’s ‘Dawn of DC,’ writer Tom Taylor and artist Nicola Scott will be relaunching “Titans” in May. The series’ description describes the former teenage superheroes — consisting of Nightwing, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven, Beast Boy, Donna Troy, and Wally West — as taking over as the premier protectors of the DC Universe, in the wake of the Justice League’s dissolvement in “Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Issue #1 will be released on May 16.

In an interview with IGN, Taylor described the new series as the natural byproduct of his “Nightwing” run, in which Dick Grayson used his inheritance to build a new Titans Tower. He describes the Titans as “want[ing] to be a positive force for good. It’s not just about, we are going to fight the next thing that comes, it’s also, okay, let’s look around and see if there’s other injustices that we can fix.” Scott elaborates Taylor is seeking to avoid the recent trope in recent superhero stories of how “superheroes [are] kind of being the core of the problem, actually, that they’re all getting in each other’s way and that they’re not being as responsible citizens as they want and need to be,” and that the Titans’ optimism and camaraderie will make them feel like “they’re actual heroes responding to actual catastrophe that does affect people, that they haven’t caused.”

Furthermore, it was revealed Cyborg’s previously announced new solo series will be written by Morgan Hampton, a graduate of the Milestone Initiative Talent Development Program, and feature art by Tom Raney (“Green Lantern,” “Uncanny X-Men”). The comic, also starting May 16, will see Victor Stone return to his hometown of Detroit after a family emergency. But before he can get too wistful about his homecoming, Vic will discover “an aggressive new company is turning the Motor City into an overclocked engine for revolutionary artificial intelligence.” A preview, also written by Hampton, will be included in this year’s Black History Month special, “DC Power: A Celebration,” due out January 31.

Finally, DC announced the new “Green Lantern” series will be penned by Jeremy Adams (with art by Xermánico), instead of the previously announced Mariko Tamaki. The relaunch will see Sector 2814 (which contains Earth) being quarantined by the Guardians of the Universe in the wake of “Dark Crisis,” with Hal Jordan trapped inside. Blaming Sinestro for his misfortune, Hal seeks revenge, but he’ll have to find a way to recharge his ring first. The first issue drops May 9, and will also contain part one of the ‘John Stewart: The Good Soldier’ arc by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist Osvaldo Montos (“Entropy”), which will act as a prelude to Stewart’s own title.
