Eisner Award-winning webcomic “The Tea Dragon Society” is getting a new prequel, “The Tea Dragon Festival.”

Written and illustrated by “Tea Dragon” creator Katie O’Neill, the new book will see its protagonist, Rinn, encounter not just the titular Tea Dragons, but a more complicated “real” dragon named Aedhan, according to the synopsis found at BOOK RIOT.

Rinn has grown up with the Tea Dragons that inhabit their village, but stumbling across a real dragon turns out to be a different matter entirely! Aedhan is a young dragon who was appointed to protect the village but fell asleep in the forest eighty years ago. With the aid of Rinn’s adventuring uncle Erik and his partner Hesekiel, they investigate the mystery of his enchanted sleep, but Rinn’s real challenge is to help Aedhan come to terms with feeling that he cannot get back the time he has lost.

Originally published as a webcomic, “The Tea Dragon Society” was picked up and pushed to print by Oni Press in 2017. The book was well received, winning an Eisner and a Harvey Award this year, and it has also inspired a card game of the same name. The gentle fantasy follows the story of Greta, a blacksmith’s apprentice, as she learns the art of caring for Tea Dragons.

Oni Press will publish “The Tea Dragon Festival” in September 2019. O’Neill’s latest graphic novel, “Aquicorn Cove,” is due out today.
