“Teen Titans GO!” joining DC Nation in 2013

Joining “Young Justice,” “Green Lantern: The Animated Series” and the forthcoming “Beware the Batman” on the “DC Nation” block on Cartoon Network is “Teen Titans GO!,” a new 30 minute show featuring your favorite Teen Titans from the 2003-2006 “Teen Titans” animated series, as well as shorts that have been airing as part of “DC Nation.”

With the main voice talent returning, fans of the original cartoon should be eagerly anticipating this series. Whether “DC Nation” will expand to 2 hours, or the four shows will rotate in and out remains to be seen.

This is an interesting decision on DC’s part, as the current “Teen Titans” comic is about as far away from the animated series as possible, from having only one overlapping character (and only sort of at that, (Red) Robin), to having Beast Boy red instead of green, and to having Raven nowhere to be found anywhere in the DC lineup. When this block was launched, many applauded DC for the synergy this block would allow them to expand both their television presence and their reading audience. But when the product on the screen doesn’t even come close to matching the product in comic stores, isn’t it sort of self-defeating?

I suppose there is a lot of time for things to change between now and the series launch date in 2013, so we shall see.
