While the current volume of “Teen Titans,” from writer Scott Lobdell and artists Art Thibert and Tyler Kirkham, set to end this month, many fans were wondering how the book would be reconfigured and put back together. Well, we have our answer now. Current “Red Hood and the Outlaws” writer Wil Pfeifer and current “Superman” artist Kenneth Rocafort will be teaming up for the new volume of the series, set to star Red Robin, Wonder Girl, Raven, Beast Boy and Bunker.
Pfeifer spoke to Newsarama about the project, saying how the team was likely to expand in unusual ways.
what we probably should be saying is “There’s no teen hero from the Superman family or the Flash family – yet.” Something is in the works, but I don’t think it’s along the lines of what anyone is expecting.
Pfeifer started as the writer on “Red Hood and the Outlaws” just as of March’s #29, but quickly switched titles with outgoing “Titans” writer Lobdell. Lobdell launched both books for the New 52 in September 2011.
One initially surprising piece about this story is how similar the team is to the team from Lobdell’s run of the book – typically, when a team book is relaunched, it is an opportunity to bring new characters into the fold. While Beast Boy and Bunker haven’t been front and center lately, this looks like a slimmed down version of Lobdell’s team. That doesn’t necessarily mean the tone will be similar, but it does raise a few red flags for those of us who did not enjoy his run on the book. Pfeifer promises lots of fun – which is a great thing to hear in the often too-bleak DCU – and Rocafort is clearly enthused about the book, having put a piece of process art on his Tumblr last month, simply titled “Teen Titans.”
