Via Syfy Wire, Transformers fans will finally see the Autobots’ elite commando unit return to IDW this fall in “Transformers: Wreckers — Tread & Circuits.” The four-issue series will reintroduce the “Right Bots For the Job” to the acclaimed relaunch, bringing them into the post-2019 continuity.
The creative team is a list of franchise veterans: IDW editor David Mariotte, who co-wrote last year’s “Transformers vs. The Terminator” crossover with John Barber, will handle writing duties. He will be joined by “Lost Light” artist Jack Lawrence, with “Transformers/Back to the Future’s” Candice Han providing colors.
The story follows (as Mariotte calls them) “the Autobots willing to do what other Autobots wouldn’t,” on a remote colony world far from the ongoing war on Cybertron. Performing as daredevils to cover their true missions, they find themselves tasked with defending the Speedia 500, a race to determine control of the planet. “Every iteration has been a bit different,” Mariotte says of the team. “And with Jack and Candice on art, this one’s going to be a gorgeous new take on who the Wreckers are and how they do what they do best.”
“I was collecting the UK ‘Transformers’ comic when the first Wreckers story was published in 1986, and it’s so awesome to actually contribute to their legend,” Lawrence says of the bots, who appeared exclusively in the Marvel UK run upon their debut. “The Wreckers have always felt like a pulp adventure team, and I’m excited to bring some of that feeling to these pages.”
