After appearing in this summer’s Avengers: Infinity War and ‘Avengers: No Surrender,‘ Marvel’s villainous Black Order have scored their own five-issue limited series starting this November.
Written by award-winning fantasy novelist Derek Landy (Skulduggery Pleasant), who is making his Marvel debut, and illustrated by Philip Tan (“Spawn,” “Suicide Squad”), “Black Order” will follow Thanos’s former lieutenants (Ebony Maw, Black Swan, Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, and Black Dwarf) as they march to the tune of a different master: the Grandmaster. And with the Black Order at his command, it seems the Grandmaster is done playing games.
“‘Black Order’ sets the flagitious five on a bloody, brutal, head-rolling take-no-prisoners tear that will pit them against the forces of an entire Galactic Empire,” said Marvel SVP and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, in a press release provided to Newsarama. “[T]hey’ll encounter some familiar Marvel faces as well as some bonkers new faces along the way!”
Whether the words “Galactic Empire” mean the Black Order are taking on the Kree, the Skrulls, the Shi’ar, or an entirely different galactic race is unknown, but those familiar faces Brevoort mentions will likely include Thanos, who features prominently on “Black Order”‘s first cover. “Black Order” #1 releases November 7.
