The Book Fans Have Been Waiting For Is Announced: “Harley Quinn” by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti

When last we saw Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti working together, it was for 12 critically acclaimed and fan lauded issues of “Power Girl” in the Pre-52, following up their work in the “Terra” mini-series and delivering an unforgettable run but all-too-short run on the character. Now wife and husband duo Conner and Palmiotti will be reuniting in the New 52 for more heroine adventures in the just announced “Harley Quinn” #1.

With a slightly redesigned outfit and no more weird eye make-up, what’s interesting is that Conner will not be providing art for the book. Instead, Conner will be writing it with Palmiotti with an artist yet to be named, with Conner at least providing a cover to the first issue (if not more). It’s definitely an interesting decision, and Conner will be DC’s fourth regular female writer (not including the Villain’s Month “guests”) and will run in tandem to “Suicide Squad,” dealing with Harley’s personal life as opposed to what she does while hanging out with other villains or heroes — living a “normal life”. As Conner states,

We want to put her in a new surroundings, with new people, and see how she behaves in that environment. Is she going to try to keep it together, or is she just going to cut loose and introduce her new world to the Harley brand of crazy?

The book will also, of course, deal with Harley’s relationship to the Joker, although Conner and Palmiotti describe him as more of a spectre looming over the series. It is unknown how direct of a role he will play in it, although one could assume there are plans.

Look for the book to debut in November.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
