Announced in Previews World in shops now and missing from May solicits, it appears that our guess that Warren Ellis has an Image comic to be announced wasn’t that far off afterall.

Teaming up with his “Scatterlands” partner Jason Howard, Ellis announced via his site that “Trees” was their new project. Evolving out of their collaboration for “Scatterlands,” he refers to it as a “full series” (which could mean mini or ongoing, I guess), with the first issue debuting May 5th and 3 issues already in the bank. Here’s what the solicit tells us:

Ten years after they landed. All over the world. And they did nothing, standing on the surface of the Earth like trees, exerting their silent pressure on the world, as if there were no-one here and nothing under foot. Ten years since we learned that there is intelligent life in the universe, but that they did not recognise us as intelligent or alive. Beginning a new science fiction graphic novel by Warren Ellis & Jason Howard.

So there you have it. Ellis and Howard, Image, “Trees,” May. This isn’t the first time Image has “forgotten” to solicit a book recently, such as with the return of “Stray Bullets,” which was announced after all regular solicitations were done via a special press conference. Putting up an ad and preview in Previews is an ostensibly odd way to announce a book, but hey, we’ll take it regardless.

The above image is incomplete as well, by the way, But there’s a preview of the comic in Previews, so be sure to check that out in shops today. I’m sure Image will be sending out more info soon, but we’ll happily jump the gun on any PR in order to keep you dear readers informed about things we think you need to know. Like a new Warren Ellis comic. That seems relevant.

Update: And it looks like CBR has somehow gotten their hands on the cover to issue #2:

I bet they asked.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
