The Death Of Spider-Man Gets A Cover

Yesterday, we told you that Spider-Man was going to “die”, as well as reminded you that this is something that had possibly maybe been in the works since July 2010 when Spidey editor Stephen Wacker said, “I feel like we’ve done as much as we can do in terms of Peter Parker’s time as Spider-Man.” Uh oh.

Now, as revealed at Comic Book Resources, take a look at the cover to Amazing Spider-Man #655 by Marcos Martin, which further teases the death of the iconic hero.

So what does this mean? Is the current Big Time ultimately all for nothing? The idea of Big Time (as far as I understood) was that Spidey would become a bigger entity throughout the entire Marvel U, which a more more interconnected story as well as appearances from all his friends like the Avengers and the Fantastic Four (both of whom appear in the first issue, which came out yesterday and Walt has reviewed for you). Yesterday, we mused that this was perhaps a metaphorical death – the end of Spider-Man rather than Peter Parker ending up six feet under, kind of like Amazing Spider-Man #50, “Spider-Man No More!” Of course, this seems counter productive to me, but as a reader of MC pointed out yesterday, there is no way that Dan Slott would let Spider-Man actually die die.

So – Spider-Man No More?

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
