Eric Powell’s “The Goon” has long been a pretty damn influential book in my comic book reading world, if only because it was in the second wave of books I started to read after I came back to comics. While the trio of “Y the Last Man,” “Fables,” and “The Walking Dead” firmly got me back onboard, books like “The Goon” got me all the way hooked.

Over the years though, the book has been pretty slow in terms of its release schedule.

That said, every issue has been dynamite, and the story has taken on a lot of depth that early issues couldn’t foresee, while Powell’s art (with the help of Dave Stewart’s colors) has taken a major leap as well. Now, Powell has announced something pretty exciting to go with that: “The Goon” is going monthly with issue #40.

For how long, no one knows (Powell said “for the foreseeable future” on Twitter), but for this Goon fan, that’s news to celebrate. Bring it on!
