The Incredible Hercules Ending with Issue #150

According to Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool, our beloved Incredible Hercules will be going away with issue #150. Given that we are on issue #138 now that issue is still roughly a year away, even with Herc’s variable shipping schedule that makes it seem like it comes out more often than monthly.

With all that said, Marvel is keeping their lips sealed with this one and Fred Van Lente is being more ominous than usual about the happenings of his book via Twitter. Look after the jump for more theories and conjecture, along with a eulogy from Gil (hopefully), who loves this title like some people love their children.

While this series is not a top seller, it is a fan favorite and has received a lot of critical acclaim for its classic storytelling from Van Lente and Greg Pak. This story has been a lot of fun, telling adventure stories that hearken back to older era’s of comics and giving us comical bits all over the place, especially with Herc’s apparent sex addiction and his interactions with the ever present 7th most intelligent person in the world – Amadeus Cho. With this title being a surprise success after World War Hulk, the question is simple: why would they cancel it?

Perhaps it’s not as simple as that.

As taken from Twitter/Bleeding Cool, this interaction between Van Lente and a fan seem to indicate that something could be coming after this title ends.

Fan to FVL: Please tell me we’re not losing Incredible Herc!

FVL to Fan: You’ve phrased your question in a way that makes it difficult for me to answer…I do think you’ll be PLEASED by developments.

Not to jump to conclusions, but perhaps we have a new Hercules ongoing after this one ends? One that isn’t bogged down with the title “Incredible Hercules” and the ties to the world of the Hulk. Intriguing possibilities surround this.

Let’s just hope when it’s all said and done we get more Pak and Van Lente along with more Herc and Cho. The way it’s supposed to be.
