Marvel Studios have released the teaser trailer for director Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels, the film that brings together Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers; Teyonah Parris’s adult version of Monica Rambeau from the WandaVision series; and Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan from the eponymous Disney+ show.
Set to Beastie Boys’ “Intergalactic,” the trailer picks up from the Ms. Marvel finale’s post-credits scene, revealing the three title characters’ powers have become entangled, causing them to swap places whenever they use them. Kamala replaces Monica while performing a space walk outside Nick Fury’s new S.A.B.E.R. space station (orbiting above Earth), while Carol replaces her when Monica and Fury come to the Khan household to figure out what’s going on; poor Kamala, meanwhile, gets to witness the absolute body horror of Goose the flerken consuming a bunch of Kree combatants.
According to the press release, this is the result of Carol investigating “an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary,” and so Carol, Monica and Kamala must reluctantly go together to fulfil her mission on another world, which appears to be in the midst of a conflict between Zawe Ashton’s Kree Accuser Dar-Benn, and South Korean actor Park Seo-joon’s unnamed commander. Despite Monica and Carol’s refusal to believe they’re a team, ultimately, they learn to use their powers in harmony to battle Ashton’s villain. We also see a bunch of flerken kittens, and (unsurprisingly, given this is a Ms. Marvel follow-up) a Bollywood-style dance number that Carol seems to struggle with.
Written by DaCosta, Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells, The Marvels releases in theaters November 10. Marvel’s next movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, will be released in the meantime on May 5.
