The Powers show hasn’t had an easy life so far, with a fully produced pilot that was then canned in favor of a completely new show and a completely new direction. But as the second life of Powers continues to come along with its new home at Sony as an original Playstation program, today brings big news in the form of the first major casting: that of Deena Pilgrim.

As announced on Deadline, replacing Lucy Punch as Deena Pilgrim is Susan Heyward. The female lead of the show, Deena Pilgrim is the “new kid on the block” when the series begins, a partner to Christian Walker who is assigned to his beat. Pilgrim is characterized by her sass, sarcasm and wit, which Heyward will assuredly deliver on.

I’ll admit that I’m not very familiar with Heyward, only really knowing her from the one-off gag as Feyoncé on 30 Rock and a recurring character on the five year old cancelled program Michael and Michael Have Issues. I doubt either are really representative of what her work is like now. However, everything coming out from the Powers show reboot seems indicative that they’ve got great things in store, with David Slade directing and Charlie Huston writing, so I would expect great things from Heyward in what will definitely be a breakout role.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
