This summer, the crew of the USS Orville is set to explore their strangest territory yet: comic books. Dark Horse will publish a four-issue limited series set between seasons one and two, written by the television show’s executive producer and writer David A. Goodman. Art duties will be handled by newcomer David Cabeza, with colors by Michael Atiyeh (“Superman Reborn”).

The new series will be split between two different two-issue long story arcs. The first of which, ‘New Beginnings,’ sees a fleet conference interrupted by a distress signal from a century old Union ship, as a domestic dispute breaks out on the Orville. The second story, ‘The World of Avis,’ centers around what appears to be a Union ship heading towards Krill space, but the crew soon learns that the reality of the situation is far more complicated.

Created by and starring Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy), The Orville started airing on Fox in September of 2017. The show is a sci-fi comedy set 400 years in the future and follows the crew of the titular ship as they explore the vast reaches of space. The show quickly proved itself a success and was renewed for a second season.

“The Orville” #1 is set to release July 17, 2019.
