The REAL Avengers Are Coming Back!

I will do my best to not fill this article with too much insane fanboy-esque rants, but allow me my excitement here.

We all remember Avengers Disassembled. We all remember cursing Brian Michael Bendis under our breaths as he tore apart the best Marvel team of all time and began his chaotic rampage throughout the Marvel U with all his changes and Skrulls and whatnot. For people like me, this was a big loss, because the Avengers were the team when I was growing up. Sure, the X-Men are cool, and I’m growing to like Fantastic Four, but there’s nothing like the holy trinity of Cap, Iron Man, and Thor. Brian even teased us a bit at the end of Secret Invasion with the three once again fighting together against the Skrulls. But for all intents and purposes, with FIVE different Avengers groups out there right now (Mighty, Dark, and New as well as Young and Dark Young), it didn’t seem like we’d ever see the good old days of Marvel with the status quo we were all so used to for years.

…until now?

Now, we’ve all seen the solicit. We know that some event called “Siege” is coming and it looks to be the next bit in the series of tales concocted by Bendis that create radical changes to the Marvel U. Well, last night on G4 (according to reports I read), Bendis told Blair Butler,

“[Siege] is not only the end of this Dark Reign storyline we’ve been telling with Norman Osborn running the world, but it’s a seismic shift in the Avengers books. It’s just as big as when we did [Avengers: Disassembled] and New Avengers. It’s a very big shift. It’s basically what would happen in the Marvel Universe that would unite characters that have literally not been on the same team or same side for, believe it or not, almost over ten years. Thor, Iron Man and Cap have not been in the same room doing the same thing since way before I was on the book.”

Do you see that? Thor, Iron Man, and Cap. They’re all back. Together. Working as a team! Oh. My. God. You guys? Oh my God.

Now, of course we don’t actually know anything REAL about it. We know that this is the end of Norman’s Dark Reign. But what else happens beyond that, no one can tell. Steve coming back from the dead, Thor returning from Ragnarok and exiled from Asgard, and Tony being in the mental state that he’s in all leave us in different places. There is absolutely no way to tell how exactly the new status will result in, but this news is absolutely fantastic. I can already tell there will be a new book out as soon as this is all over, and I can only assume it will be the final restoration to what Bendis first broke apart all those years ago.

I’m so excited!

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
