– Artist Marco Rudy (“Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier”) has announced a fully-painted OGN series with writer Frank Barbiere (“Violent Love”), titled “Of Lost Fantasy.” The pair are currently seeking a publisher, but in the meantime the pair are making sure the first volume will be completed this year.
– Métis Canadian author Katherena Vermette is making her comic book debut with artist Scott B. Henderson and colorist Donovan Yaciuk on an OGN series titled “A Girl Called Echo.” The graphic novels revolve around the titular Métis girl, who finds herself being transported back in time to key moments of First Nations history. The first volume, “Pemmican Wars” (named after a 19th century conflict between fur traders), will be released in paperback by HighWater Press in March.
– Marvel revealed Gambit will join Jean Grey’s X-Men team in April’s “X-Men: Red” #3. The book by writer Tom Taylor and artist Mahmud Asrar already features Namor, Nightcrawler, the Laura Kinney Wolverine, her sister Gabby (now going by Honey Badger), the Wakandan mutant Gentle and the new character of Trinary. Editor Mark Paniccia also revealed at least one more character will be recruited during the first arc.
– “Elephantmen” #80, the final issue of the Image Comics series written by Richard Starkings with art by Axel Medellin, has been delayed again to January 31. The finale was originally solicited for December 20 and delayed to January 12.
– Meanwhile, Marvel have delayed “Invincible Iron Man” #596 and “Defenders” #9 from January 17 to January 31.
– Lion Forge went ahead and revealed the release dates for its Catalyst Prime Universe books through to June, confirming “Noble,” the first ongoing in their superhero world, will reach 12 issues.
– “Mister Miracle” writer Tom King revealed the forthcoming “Director’s Cut” edition of #1 will feature a back-up drawn by Mike Norton (“Battlepug”) expounding upon the history of the New Gods. The book is out February 14.
– A sneak peek at Black Panther will be aired during the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 8. Kendrick Lamar, who hinted he will be contributing to the film’s soundtrack, will also perform during the game’s halftime show.
– iTunes have listed the digital release date for Justice League as January 30. The superhero ensemble film has grossed $652.9 million worldwide.
– “The Silver Metal Lover,” Trina Robbins’s 1985 adaptation of Tanith Lee’s short story of the same name, will be reprinted by IDW’s It’s Alive! imprint after a successful Kickstarter campaign. The dystopic story by the late British author told the story of a young woman who falls in love with a robotic minstrel, and the reprint will contain a variant cover and afterword by Colleen Doran, a foreword by Gail Simone, and an introduction from Robbins herself.
