Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown of comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.
– In what can only be called a totally obvious move, Marvel will be relaunching its “Defenders” comic in June, featuring the same team as the upcoming Defenders Netflix-series: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. The series will be written by Marvel “Architect” (remember that term?) Brian Michael Bendis, and will be illustrated by David Marquez. The team – and presumably the creative team – will debut in Marvel’s Free Comic Book Day installment, come May. Bendis also teased some more 2017 projects on his Tumblr.
– The call sheet for the upcoming Inhumans TV series leaked and, though featuring seemingly false names, clearly points to the series focusing on the Royal Family – Black Bolt, Medusa, et al. If you honestly thought the show wasn’t going to do that, I’ve got a bridge I’d love to sell you.
– Despite rumors that it might be more of a team film, it appears that the sequel to Deadpool will be a solo film for the Merc with a Mouth, but might still feature Cable, because you just can’t keep BFFs apart.
– Speaking of X-folks, it appears that the unnamed X-Men TV series at Fox is nearing a pilot order.
– Rumor has it that Peter Dinklage will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe – jumping over from the Fox X-Verse – for a role in the next two Avengers films. He was one of the best parts of the X-Men: Days of Future Past, and would absolutely enhance the films.
– Speaking of rumors, the chatter that Woody Harrelson would be playing a mentor role in young Han Solo film, set for 2018, appear to be confirmed. He’s hoping that Han has some need for some folksy wisdom and/or hemp products from him, because Woody’s got plenty of both.
– Hey, remember there was going to be a Captain Marvel/Shazam movie? Unless your name is Dwayne Johnson, or you follow him on social media, you may have forgotten. But the producers haven’t! In fact, Hiram Garcia, one of said producers, tweeted that he met with DC/WB brass about it yesterday, and debuted a potential tag line/hashtag for the film: #justsaytheword.
– The Wonder Woman villain has also been revealed – click through if you want to be spoiled.
– Apparently, Joe Quesada once had a piece of Marvel/White House staff theme art commissioned by President Obama. I can’t wait for Donald Trump to want to be drawn as someone with a full head of real hair by anyone who will take his phone call.
– If you’re a Pathfinder player, or least an interested party, this Humble Bundle seems like quite the steal. Plus, you get Jim Zub’s comic, too!
– “Vigilante: Southland” has been cancelled by DC halfway through its run, but will see the full 6 issues printed in a trade paperback.
– Scribid is shutting down its comics division, presumably because, like yours truly, most people forgot Scribid had a comics division.
– Marvel actually emailed out a second teaser for “Secret Empire,” its teased summer crossover event. The reason I say “actually” is because it simply features two more words than the last one, with the exact same image. Now, we know to “Trust the Secret Empire.” Seems like you could’ve just let this one sit unsent, folks.
– And, finally, the term “Lipstick Lobo” will never not make me laugh.
