– Dark Horse have announced “All Eight Eyes,” a new four-issue horror series from writer Steve Foxe and artist Piotr Kowalski. Brad Simpson will color, while Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou will provide letters. Set in post-9/11 New York City, “All Eight Eyes” follows college dropout Vin Spencer as he parties and uses drugs until he’s swept up into a war against giant eight-legged horrors stalking the city’s most vulnerable residents. “All Eight Eyes” #1 will debut on April 19, 2023.
– Via AIPT, Dark Horse have also announced “The Rock Gods of Jackson, Tennessee,” a graphic novel written by Rafer Roberts with art by Mike Norton, colors by Allen Passalaqua, and letters from Crank! The book follows Marty Ward, a juvenile delinquent who joins a band with nerds Jonny, Lenny, and Doug called the Rock Gods. Together, they must face challenges from the likes of their parents, teachers, bullies, corrupt politicians, and most terrifyingly, a horde of mutated monsters rampaging through Jackson. “The Rock Gods of Jackson, Tennessee” will be available in bookstores June 6, and comic shops June 7, 2023.
– Marvel announced “Spider-Man 2099: Dark Genesis,” by writer Steve Orlando and artist Justin Mason. A follow-up to last year’s “Spider-Man 2099: Exodus,” also written by Orlando, the five-issue series will see Miguel O’Hara and many other heroes of Nueva York (including a brand-new Blade) face off against a new Carnage. “Spider-Man 2099: Dark Genesis” will be released weekly in May, beginning May 3, and finishing May 31, 2023.
– Via Substack, Outland Entertainment has announced Outer Shadows, a horror imprint featuring work created and curated by Cullen Bunn. The first publication, “Swords in the Shadows,” is an anthology of sword and sorcery tales peppered with some horror. The anthology will feature some big name horror stars such as Joe R. Lansdale, Brian Keene, Mary SanGiovanni, Stephen Graham Jones, Jonathan Maberry, Hailee Piper, and Jonathan Janz, among many others. Bunn will serve as editor. Bunn’s horror/fantasy novella Raze: Mother, Maiden, Crone will be released alongside “Swords in the Shadows.” Other projects are currently in the works as well. – In an exclusive, Variety reports “Heavy Metal” magazine CEO Matthew Medney has stepped down. This comes after Publishers Weekly reported Heavy Metal had “temporarily suspended payments to vendors,” and was undergoing an internal restructure. You can read Medney’s full statement over at Variety.
– Via Anime News Network, the official website for Sailor Moon Cosmos, the two-part anime film project adapting the final arc of Naoko Takeuchi’s original “Sailor Moon” manga, revealed a special promotional video announcing the Japanese release dates for both films. Part One will be released June 9, while Part Two will be released June 30, 2023. The video also reveals three cast members: Saori Hayami (who’ll play Taiki Kō/Sailor Star Maker), Marina Inoue (as Seiya Kō/Sailor Star Fighter), and Ayane Sakura (as Yaten Kō/Sailor Star Healer.) Both movies are directed by Tomoya Takahashi.
– Anime News Network also reports that NHK announced Attack on Titan‘s final season will air the first part of its conclusion beginning March 3, 2023. Part 2 will air later this year. NHK will air a special seven-part compilation anime for three consecutive nights starting on February 25, 2023. Hajime Isayama ended the “Attack on Titan” manga back in April 2021, with the final volume shipping in June of that year. The fourth and final season of the anime began airing in December 2020.
– Via Deadline, Disney/Marvel have secured release dates in China for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This ends a three-and-a-half year period during which movies featuring Marvel characters did not gain entry to the world’s second largest box office market. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be released February 7, while Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be released February 17, day-and-date with North America. The last Marvel movie to be released in China was 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. You can see the Chinese versions of the posters for both films here.
