– On their website, indie pop duo Tegan and Sara announced “Crush,” written by the pair with art by Tillie Walden. This is the band’s second middle-grade graphic novel, and the conclusion to the story that began in “Junior High.” The book follows Tegan and Sara during eighth grade, where they’ll have to deal with life on and off stage, including Sara’s budding crush, and Tegan’s fallout with a former BFF. The duo are more in the spotlight than ever, but as the official synopsis says, “stepping into the spotlight — and into themselves — means colliding over fame, family, and finding their sound.” Published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux, “Crush” will be available October 1, 2024.
– Via IGN, Dark Horse have announced “Masters of the Universe: Revolution,” a new four-issue limited series, and prequel to the Netflix animated series of the same name. The book is written by Tim Sheridan, Rob David and Ted Biaselli, with art by Daniel HDR, inks by Keith Champagne, colors by Brad Simpson, and letters by AndWorld Design. “Masters of the Universe: Revolution” will show readers the early days of Skeletor and Hordak and how they formed their alliance of magic and technology, as well as why that alliance is now on shaky ground. “Masters of the Universe: Revolution” #1 will be available on May 15, 2024, while Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revolution will premiere on January 25.
– Via The Beat, April’s “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” #12 will feature a story called ‘Henchman’ from Herik Hanna and artist Charlie Adlard, who’s known for his black & white style on books like “The Walking Dead.” This marks Adlard’s first time on a Batman book in 20 years, and his second time drawing the character. ‘Henchman’ follows Barney Peterson, a former criminal who has a run-in with Batman. “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” #12 will also feature stories by Karl Kerschl, Delilah S. Dawson and Serg Acuña, as well as Torunn Grønbekk and Fernando Pasarin. “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” #12 will be available on April 23, 2024.
– The Beat also reports that Deman Éditions’s “Les Guerres de Lucas” (“The Lucas Wars”) has won the sixth annual Fnac-France Inter Prix BD. The book by Laurent Hopman and Renaud Roche explores George Lucas’s life as well as the behind-the-scenes chaos that would result in 1977’s Star Wars. The Prix BD winner is selected by multiple rounds of voting between France Inter radio station editorial staff, Fnac booksellers, and a public jury of 35 readers. Last year’s nominees all had to be published in order to have been nominated. “Les Guerres de Lucas” is currently on sale in France.
– Via National Day Calendar, in celebration of the 95th anniversary of Popeye the Sailor Man yesterday, the character received a national day of regognition. Every year moving forward, January 17 will be known as Popeye the Sailor Man Day. To celebrate this new national day, National Day Calendar reminds everyone “to work hard, care for others, be persistent, and stay strong to the finish in all of our endeavors,” and that includes eating spinach. You can use the hashtag #PopeyeTheSailorManDay to let others know all about how you celebrate Popeye the Sailor Man Day.
