– Avery Hill Publishing unveiled six new graphic novels set to be released this year:

  • “Jinx Freeze” by Lord Hurk will see characters such as King Gianthead Fighter Policeman O.X., and Danny Kildare the Space Priest, called to action as the police struggle with the mystery surrounding a missing sculpture.
  • Tillie Walden’s “Alone in Space – A Collection,” which will include three of Walden’s longform comics, “I Love This Part,” “The End Of Summer,” and “A City Inside,” alongside her previously uncollected webcomic “What It’s Like To Be Gay In An All-Girls Middle School,” and more.
  • “Quiet Thoughts” by Karen Shangguan will feature a variety of the artist’s sketches and poetry comics.
  • “Lights! Planets! People!” by writer Molly Naylor and artist Lizzy Stewart, based on Naylor’s play of the same name. It follows Maggie Hill, an acclaimed astronomer, who is experiencing turmoil in both her work and personal lives.
  • B. Mure’s “Methods of Dyeing” will be a detective story and the latest graphic novel to be set in Mure’s animal-people universe series, “Ismyre.”
  • “Sour Pickles” will be a semi-autobiographical comic chronicling Clio Isadora’s experience being working class and biracial, whilst having difficulty completing her final year at an art school in London.
  • You can check out the full details for each graphic novel, including their covers and their US and UK release dates here.

    – SelfMadeHero also announced their 2021 graphic novel slate. It includes “Orwell,” a biography of the 1984 author by writer Pierre Christin and artists such as Sebastian Verdier, Annie Goetzinger, and André Juillard to be released on May 18; “Knock Out!” by Reinhard Kleist about the bisexual black boxer, Emile Griffith, scheduled for June 8; and “I Feel Love,” an anthology edited by the “I Feel Machine” pair, Julian Hanshaw and Krent Able, which is set for a March 30 release. The entirety of SelfMadeHero’s slate can be found at Broken Frontier.

    – Image Comics released a teaser for a new project by artist Michael Walsh (“Black Hammer/Justice League: Hammer of Justice”), and writers Chip Zdarsky (“Daredevil”) and Kelly Thompson (“Deadpool”). The image simply presents all three names over the top of a black and white drawn image of a decomposing body. There is no indication as to when the series will be fully unveiled or released, though Thompson’s name was added in a second version of the teaser, suggesting more creative talent will be added in the coming days. You can check out the original teaser here, and the version with Thompson here.

    – Scholastic announced a publishing deal for cartoonist Shauna J. Grant’s early years graphic novel, “Mimi & Penelope.” It will follow Mimi and her magical toy dog, Penelope, through their day-to-day city lives. Over the course of the graphic novel, Mimi will learn the importance of being herself and a host of other life lessons. Grant has previously worked on titles such as “Adventure Time” and won Best Artist at the Glyph Awards in 2018. “Mimi and Penelope” will be released in 2022.

Deadline reported that Matt Damon is set to feature in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder having recently entered quarantine in Australia, where the film is soon to enter production. His role at this point is not yet known, although Damon previously cameoed as an Asgardian actor playing Loki in Thor: Ragnarok. May 6, 2022 is the current release date for Thor: Love and Thunder.

    – The animated music video for “Moon Color Chainon (Tsukiiro Chainon)” by Momoiro Clover Z, the theme song to Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie (Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal), debuted on the group’s official YouTube channel with a host of subtitle languages, including English. The two-part pair of films takes the place of a fourth season of Sailor Moon Crystal with the director of season three, Chiaki Kon, at the helm, adapting creator Naoko Takeuchi’s ‘Dead Moon’ arc from the original manga. The first film was released on January 8 in Japan after delayed by COVID-19 last September, with its sequel set for February 11.

    – Finally, Kristen Gudsnuk unveiled a sculpture of Henchgirl along with the announcement that she will holding a raffle to win it. The one of a kind, hand-painted, and hand-sculpted figure comes with three accessories including a carrot, a wanted sign, and a crepe. The character is the star of her recently released “Henchgirl: Deluxe Edition” at Dark Horse Comics, the release of which is the reason for Gudsnuk’s raffle. The raffle is open to enter now and entry requirements are listed on her Twitter thread.
