– Via Newsarama, The Rocketeer is headed back to comics with a brand-new series just in time for his 40th anniversary. The four-issue miniseries “The Rocketeer: The Great Race” comes from writer & artist Stephen Mooney, and finds Cliff Secord, the titular pilot, taking part in an air race that runs from California to France at the dawn of World War II. Each issue of the series will also be accompanied by an oral history of the character, featuring stories from creator Dave Stevens’s friends, family and fellow artists as compiled by documentarian Kelvin Mao, who is working on a documentary about Stevens. “The Rocketeer: The Great Race” #1, featuring a cover by “Locke & Key” artist Gabriel Rodriguez, soars to shelves in April.

ComicBook.com has the first look at the new Dark Horse sci-fi series “Break Out” from writer Zack Kaplan, artist Wilton Santos, colorist Jason Wordie, and letterer Jim Campbell. Set in a world where teens are being kidnapped by a force from another dimension and kept captive in mysterious floating prisons, “Break Out” follows a teenage boy named Tommy, who assembles a team of his fellow high schoolers to rescue his younger brother and take down the cosmic tyrants. “As a parent of two young children, I find myself dismayed at the number of existential dilemmas that hang over younger generations,” Kaplan said. “This is a series about how young people fight back.” “Break Out” #1 hits comic stores on April 13.

Emerald City and Siberia creator Matthew Arnold is working on the new sci-fi graphic novel “Eden” with Riccardo Burchielli (“DMZ”) for comiXology and Dark Horse. Via Deadline, the story takes place after a new law declares that convicted criminals will be cryogenically frozen instead of jailed. When Senator Anna Craft is accused of a horrible crime and imprisoned in the new system, she, alongside her sheriff husband Ben, “will have to face a bizarre and frightening reality unlike anything she’d previously imagined.” “Eden” thaws out on ComiXology on March 29, and will get a print release from Dark Horse on July 12.

– DC Comics has announced a new middle-grade graphic novel that lets youngsters hone their detective skills with the Dark Knight himself. “Batman’s Mystery Casebook” comes from writer Sholly Fisch and artist Christopher Uminga, and invites readers to look for clues, analyze evidence, and solve riddles to help Batman solve his mysteries before he logs them in his casebook. “You could study shoe prints to determine who tracked mud all through the kitchen, or take fingerprints to find the cookie-eating culprit!” the teaser reads. “Batman’s Mystery Casebook” will be available on August 30.

– A new graphic novel from Highwater Press aims to connect young readers with the Mi’kmaw language. Via The Toronto Star “Giju’s Gift: Adventures of the Pugulatmu’j” comes from writer Brandon Mitchell and illustrator Veronika Barinova, and is aimed at elementary school readers. The story follows Mali, a young Mi’kmaw girl, and Puug, a Pugulatmu’j (“Little People,” the traditional land guardians). After Puug steals a hair clip given to Mali by Giju (“grandmother”), Mali follows Puug on a series of adventures as she attempts to reclaim her grandmother’s gift. Mitchell has plans for a follow-up to the book, which he hopes to make into a trilogy. “Giju’s Gift: Adventures of the Pugulatmu’j” debuts on February 22.

– Via Newsarama, the young heroine Gotham Girl is returning to comics this spring. Created by Tom King and David Finch, and introduced in the first issue of King’s “Batman” run, the character was put through the ringer in a plot that ended with her taking an extended stay at Arkham Asylum. Her return comes courtesy of the backup feature ‘Gotham Girl: Interrupted’ from writer Sina Grace, artist David Lapham and colorist Trish Mulvihill, beginning in “Detective Comics” #1059. The story finds Gotham Girl fresh out of Arkham and attempting to reassure Batman that he doesn’t need to worry about her, while dealing with a gossip site that is using her name to air Gotham City’s dirty laundry. “Many of the conversations I see about mental health in pop culture are focused on ‘getting better,’ which feels like an incredibly unfair angle for those whose struggles don’t go away with a pill or talk therapy,” says Grace. “’Gotham Girl’ is a story that redefines and brings heroism to the concept of ‘getting by.’” ‘Gotham Girl: Interrupted’ kicks off in “Detective Comics” #1059 on April 26.

– Hot off the trailer reveal for the upcoming video game LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Polygon has published an article detailing the extensive crunch and poor working conditions experienced by the staff at the game’s developer, TT Games. Polygon spoke with more than 20 current and former employees of the studio, who shared stories of high turnover, mandatory overtime, and production mismanagement that stretch back to the company’s founding in 2005 and continuing past its acquisition by Warner Bros. in 2007. The issues only increased with the project of the “biggest LEGO game yet,” LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, a long-delayed release which aims to adapt all nine main films in the Star Wars series.

– Matt Reeves’s upcoming DC film The Batman has a confirmed running time. Via Variety, the film will run for 2 hours and 47 minutes, the latest in a recent run of tentpole superhero films to last over two and a half hours. At 167 minutes, The Batman is the third longest comic book tentpole (the second longest released theatrically), with only Avengers: Endgame (181 minutes) and Zack Snyder’s Justice League (242 minutes) running longer. The Batman stars Robert Pattinson in the titular role, and features an all star cast that includes Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. The film, which features a script by Reeves and Peter Craig, opens on March 4.

– Finally, Matt Fraction will serve as an executive producer on a newly announced, untitled Apple TV+ series starring Godzilla and the Titans. Via Deadline, Fraction co-created the series with Chris Black, who will also serve as the showrunner for the series. The series from Legendary Television expands the universe of the recent run of films that began with 2014’s Godzilla, and continued through last year’s Godzilla vs. Kong, following a family as they attempt to uncover the legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch. No timeline was announced for the series’ release, but it will eventually debut on Apple TV+.
