– Graphix have announced a third volume in the “Sunny” series: “Sunny Rolls the Dice.” Created by the sister and brother duo of Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm, the “Sunny” series follows the adventures of Sunny Lewin as she grows up. “Sunny Rolls the Dice” will see Sunny start middle school and trying to “find her groove,” as she starts playing “Dungeons & Dragons with a bunch of new friends” while her friend Deb starts only wanting to talk about “fashion, boys, makeup, boys, and being cool.” The first two books in the series, “Sunny Side Up” and “Swing It, Sunny” followed Sunny’s summer with her grandfather in Florida and her return to meet a new neighbor, respectively. “Sunny Rolls the Dice,” recommended for ages 8-12, will be released in hardcover and paperback format on October 1.

– Vault Comics have issued a statement regarding their creator payment issues last year. In the statement, Vault Comics CEO Damian Wassel said that the company has learned from their mistakes and “improved [their] payment systems and payment communications, with the goal of issuing payments in full and on time,” as well as rectifying “all outstanding billing issues.” Wassel also thanked “everyone who has worked with [them], to everyone who has stood by [them], and to everyone who has helped to keep [them] moving forward.”

– Jason Aaron teased a new creator-owned project via his website. The project will be illustrated by Stephen Green (“Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.”) and Rico Renzi (“The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl”) and be “unlike anything [Aaron has] ever been involved with.” Other details related to the series, including its title, synopsis and publisher have not been revealed. In addition to the new series, Aaron revealed that there are a “few issues worth” of R.M Guera’s artwork finished for “The Goddamned,” and that Jason Latour is writing and illustrating the next issue of “Southern Bastards” himself. You can see the full blog post along with the artwork here.

– Writer Dennis Hopeless (“Spider-Woman,” “WWE”) has revealed his real name is Dennis Hallum, following yesterday’s Marvel solicitations which credited him as Dennis “Hopeless” Hallum. “I was going to do a big secret identity reveal thing but post-holiday deadlines have been crazy and now solicits are beating me to the punch,” he tweeted. “The books will still say Hopeless in some fashion, at least for a while, because I’ve built a career and a fanbase with my silly pseudonym and I don’t want to confuse anyone. But it will definitely be nice to one day have a single reasonable last name.”

– Diamond Comics Distributors announced an exclusive distribution agreement with Bedside Press. Through the deal, Diamond Comics Distributors will be able to distribute Bedside Press’ products to “comic book specialty store markets worldwide” as well as to the book market, under the Diamond Books Distributors banner. Bedside Press publish graphic novels and prose books that aim to promote “history and showcasing uplifting new voices through thoughtful storytelling.”

New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast’s graphic memoir “Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant?” is going to be adapted into a half-hour TV series by showrunner/writer Sheila R. Lawrence (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Ugly Betty). The book recounted Chast’s experiences caring for her parents during their final years. The pilot will be directed by executive producer Ken Kwapis (Malcolm in the Middle, NBC’s The Office).

– The 91st Academy Awards nominations were announced: Black Panther was nominated for Best Picture, marking it as the first comic book adaptation to be nominated in the category. In addition to this, it was also nominated for Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score, Song, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film, and Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story were both nominated for Best Visual Effects. This year’s Oscars ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 24. You can view the entire list of nominations here.

– The CW cast Hosea Chanchez (The Game) in a recurring role for the second season of Black Lightning. Chanchez will play Marcus Bishop, a secret ASA operative codenamed Shakedown, who has the ability to generate vibrations and frequencies at will. Black Lightning returned from its mid-season break this week with “The Book of Rebellion, Chapter Three: Angelitos Negros.”

– Amazon confirmed that the third season of The Expanse will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video from February 8. This comes after Amazon picked up the series following its cancellation by Syfy last year. The series takes place in a future where the Solar System has been colonised by humanity and follows as a police detective, first officer of an interplanetary ice freighter and a United Nations Executive discover a conspiracy that threatens the peace that exists in the system. Currently, Season 4 is scheduled to air at an unannounced time later this year.
