– With Black Panther only two weeks away from release on February 16, 2018, writer Ta-Nehisi Coates hopes the hype will pour over to the comics side of things, as he launches a new storyline in May entitled ‘The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda.’ The story, teased in “Marvel Legacy,” will see T’Challa discover some Wakandans have gone and colonized outer space. Coates said in an interview with the Associated Press the new story arc hitting shelves would be a perfect jumping on point for fans looking to get into the series. It appears from an image caption at the AP that May’s issue of “Black Panther” will also be a new #1 for the book.

– Continuing with the Black Panther hype, Wesley Snipes goes in depth with The Hollywood Reporter about his unmade Black Panther film in the early nineties. The report states “‘the initial struggle . . . was explaining to the uninitiated that he was trying to make a movie about the comic book superhero Black Panther, not the 1960s civil rights revolutionaries.” Though his Black Panther film was never made, Snipes would become iconically recognized as the half-vampire, half-human hero Blade.

– It seems there has been some confusion over at DC for their upcoming hardcover “Action Comics 1000: 80 years of Superman.” To end that confusion DC has axed the number 1000 from the book. The 1000th issue of “Action Comics” will be released on April 18, 2018, while this hardcover will be released on April 11, 2018.

– Kid Koala, a Canadian DJ will be adapting “Nufonia Must Fall,” his graphic novel that acts as a companion piece to the album of the same name, into a live musicial featuring puppets. The graphic novel tells the story of a robot creating a love song. The musical is said to have “70 puppets…and a string quartet — with the author fleshing out the score on piano, turntable and percussion.” The musical will be performed at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, AZ from February 2-5.

– According to Anime News Network the third season of the anime based on Kōhei Horikoshi’s manga “My Hero Academia” is set to premiere on April 7, 2018, keeping its 5:30PM time slot. The anime premiered in April of 2016 and a movie version will be released sometime this summer.

Bleeding Cool speculates “Flash” artist Carmine Di Giandomenico will no longer provide art duties on the book. This is based on a piece of art that he posted to his Facebook page. Giandomenico has been providing steady art duties on “The Flash” since ‘Rebirth’ began.

– Professional wrestling and comic books collide as Aubrey Sitterson & Chris Moreno collaborate on “The Comic Book History of Professional Wrestling,” set to be released on October 9, 2018. Fans of both mediums should be delighted as Sitterson has previously worked for Marvel and WWE. On the project, Moreno says “that the combination of the two art forms was pretty compatible,” so keep your eyes peeled for this fun book in the fall.

– Jarrett Krosoczka, a popular New York Times cartoonist, and author of several picture books and Star Wars books, will publish a memoir through Scholastic’s Graphix imprint titled “Hey, Kiddo.” Krosoczka’s mother suffered from heroin addiction throughout his childhood and the memoir will focus heavily on what his life was like during that period.

– HBO and Damon Lindelof’s upcoming Watchmen series has a director for its pilot episode. According to Deadline Nicole Kassell, a regular director on Lindelof’s previous HBO show The Leftovers, will direct the pilot episode of the new series based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon’s 1986 classic. Deadline reports that this is “one of the highest-profile premium pilot assignments for a female director.” The show has yet to reveal a premiere date.

– BOOM! Studios’s Boom! Box imprint have announced “Alice: From Dream to Dream,” a new original graphic novel from Giulio Macaione (“Basilicò”) due out in September 2018. The book follows the titular girl “who has to share a bedroom with her brother after her family moves to Cincinnati. But that’s not the worst part: she’s also sharing his dreams. Along with her best friend, Jamie, Alice explores the secrets buried deep in their small town that only she can explore… and only in her dreams!”
