Arrival screenwriter Eric Heisserer is set to write a top secret series for Valiant Comics. The comic, written by the Academy Award nominated writer and illustrated by Valiant stalwart Raul Allen, will be announced sometime today, according to a teaser from Valiant, released yesterday, stating that “Tomorrow, the secret is out…”

– Starting Today, the DC Entertainment Now Artists Workshop is taking applications for its 2017 class until March 1st at DCComicsTalentWorkshop.com. Some prior participants include Ibrahim Moustafa (“High Crimes”), Juan Ferreyra (“Colder”), and Barnaby Bagenda (“Omega Men”).

– Marvel’s Runaways live action series is rumored to begin production on February 13th, reportedly under the working title “Rugrats.” The Marvel Hulu series is set to film in Los Angeles, CA, although no official cast/crew announcements have been made.

– “Slaves for God,” a new graphic novel series from art collective These Machines are Winning, is an interesting pairing of comics and music. Each version of the graphic novel – one featuring a Jock cover, the other a Charlie Adlard cover – will feature unique digital downloads of music compiled and produced by Dylan Silvers of the Polyphonic Spree. Artist involved include Sebastian Fiumara (“Abe Sapien”) and James O’Barr (“The Crow”), as well as music from members of the Toadies, Psychedelic Furs, Cursive, and the aforementioned Polyphonic Spree.

– A new festival, based in New York City and focused, partly, on comics has been announced. The Five Points Festivalwill take place in May 20th and 21st. The festival will cover comics, street art, designer figures and more. Tickets are currently available on the Festival’s website. Several guests have been confirmed for the event including, Amy Reeder, Annie Wu, Bryan Lee O’Malley and Christopher Hastings, to name a few.

– This past Tuesday, The Flash saw a 13% spike in viewership. Its network, the CW, was the only broadcast network that didn’t preempt its programming to broadcast President Trump’s nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.

– Lastly, Chris Terrio who wrote for the upcoming Justice League film, was brought in to do rewrites for the script of The Batman. The news comes shortly after news about Ben Affleck stepping down as director of the film to put more focus into his roles as star and producer. The original draft for The Batman was worked on by Affleck and DC’s Geoff Johns prior to Terrio being brought in for rewrites. Terrio previously worked with Affleck was Argo, which Affleck both acted in and directed.
