In case you missed it, Lee Moder, the veteran comics artist who co-created the Courtney Whitmore version of Stargirl, has passed away. He was 53 years old.

– Dark Horse have announced a print edition of “The Last Days of Black Hammer,” the “Black Hammer” prequel series that was originally released via Substack, by Jeff Lemire and Stefano Simeone. The series follows Joe Weber, the original Black Hammer, as well as the other heroes in the final days leading up to their battle with the Anti-God. “The Last Days of Black Hammer: From the World of Black Hammer” trade paperback will be available in comic shops February 22, 2023, and in bookstores March 7, 2023.
– Dark Horse have also announced, in partnership with Amazon Studios and Critical Role, another prequel series, this time in the form of “The Legend of Vox Machina: Whitestone Chronicles — Ripley.” The graphic novel will be written by Marieke Nijkamp with art by Tyler Walpole, and will focus on “Dr. Anna Ripley and the choices she makes after the de Rolo family of Whitestone is taken over by the vicious Briarwoods.” “The Legend of Vox Machina: Whitestone Chronicles — Ripley” will be available in 2024, with more information coming later this year. The second season of the animated Legend of Vox Machina series is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
– Marvel have announced “Hulk Annual” #1, written by David Pepose and drawn by Caio Majado. This oversized issue is entitled ‘The Viridian Project,’ and will follow a young film crew who set out to discover the truth behind the Hulk’s origin. Marvel’s official description reads, “A documentary crew is on the hunt for a monster at the heart of a gamma radiation leak, but they get much more than they bargained for when they’re caught in the middle of a brawl between two unstoppable giants, as Hulk battles an unleashed Giganto!” “Hulk Annual” #1 will also include an exclusive preview of what’s in store next for the Hulk with a new creative team this summer. “Hulk Annual” #1 will be released with a cover by Gary Frank on May 17, 2023.
– Via ICv2, graphic novel publisher NBM have announced their fall catalog. First to be featured is “Red Harvest: A Graphic Novel of the Terror Famine in Soviet Ukraine,” by Michael Cherkas. The graphic novel is a fictional story based on the real experiences of Mykola Kovalenko during the man-made 1932 famine, known as the Holodomor, in which over 4 million Ukrainians died. “Red Harvest” will be released in November 2023.
Next up, “Prince in Comics,” by Tony Lourenco and Nicolas Finet, will feature comics and articles detailing the life of the musician. “Prince in Comics” will be released in September 2023. “Dungeon Zenith, Vol. 5: Fog & Tears,” by Lewis Trondheim, Joann Sfar, and Boulet is the latest in the long running series of spoof D&D comics, and will be available in October 2023. Finally, releasing in December 2023, “Zombillenium 5-6: Black Friday/Sabbath Grand Derby,” by Arthur de Pins, will wrap up this dark comedy series about witches competing in a violent sporting event.
– Variety reports Daniel Dae Kim will star in and executive produce a series adaptation of the BOOM! Studios comic “Butterfly,” currently in development at Amazon. Released in 2015, “Butterfly” was written by Arash Amel and Marguerite Bennett, and illustrated by Antonio Fuso and Stefano Simeone. Kim will star as David Jung, a former US intelligence operative who lives in South Korea, whose world is turned upside down when “an impossible decision from his past comes back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca, a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him.” Ken Woodruff is co-creating the series with novelist Steph Cha. Both will also serve as executive producers alongside Kim.
– Finally, Disney have announced that in celebration of The Mandalorian‘s third season, the series premiere of the show will make its broadcast debut simultaneously across ABC, Freeform and FX. “Chapter 1: The Mandalorian” will premiere on Friday, February 24 at 8 pm EST/PST. Season three of The Mandalorian will premiere exclusively on Disney+ Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
