– Hayao Miyazki, acclaimed director of Princess Mononoke, The Wind Rises, Spirited Away and many other genre defining films, has announced he will come out of retirement again. His next film, Boro the Caterpillar, began as a test of new mediums by the famed director before it became a longer project. No date of expected release or if Miyazki will actually stay retired after this project have been released.
– Marvel’s Editor in Chief Alex Alonso, dropped a large teaser image on his Twitter with the caption ‘Under Construction.’ The body in the tank, which looks to be a combination of the Hulk’s body and Wolverine’s claw has been dubbed ‘Hulkverine’ by fans. Currently, both the original Hulk and Wolverine are dead in Marvel.
–Arrival screenwriter Eric Heisserer talks the future of all things Valiant. Between building the Valiant cinematic universe at Sony, with the first two films based on Harbinger and Bloodshot, and his new series at Valiant Entertainment, “Secret Weapons,” Heisserer will be busy the next while. Secret Weapons with artist Raul Allen, and colourist Patricia Martin is set for a June release.
– Mark Waid is the new writer of the “Jughead” ongoing at Archie, and before his first issue drops, he is already the subject of some controversy. Both in a deleted tweet, as well as in the solicitations for #15 — Waid’s first issue — Waid seems to be playing with the idea that Jughead’s asexuality is, perhaps, not as confirmed as presumed. The issue sees Sabrina casting a spell, making Jughead the most desired man in Riverdale. Waid’s tweet was a little more vague, but did seem to suggest that his asexuality could be a put on of some sort.
– British actor Neil Fingleton, the U.K’s tallest man, has died. Fingleston, known for playing large, intimidating figures across film and televisions, including X-Men: First Class, 47 Ronin, The Fischer King Alien in the Doctor Who episode “Before the Flood” and his most prominent role as Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg, King of the Giants on Game of Thrones. Heart failure was cited as the cause of death.
– It may be questionable whether they are still the World’s Finest, but Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, swept the 37th Annual Razzie Awards. It took home four Razzies; Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actor (for Jesse Eisenberg’s performance as Lex Luthor), Worst Remake Rip-Off or Sequel, and Worst Screen Combo (stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill). This film had also been nominated for Worst Picture, with Snyder receiving a nod for Worst Director, and both Affleck and Cavill were nominated for Worst Actor.
