Newsarama reported that artist Mike Deodato is leaving Marvel Comics for creator-owned work, after his upcoming run on “Savage Avengers.” Deodato announced the news on Twitter, where he expressed his love and appreciation for Marvel.

The Beat’s Heidi MacDonald took a closer look at the dead-on-arrival rumor that Marvel’s attendance at SXSW somehow means that Disney is looking to shut down Marvel Comics. The article includes a look back at Marvel’s MANY previous SXSW panels, a firm denial via Tweet from Marvel’s Joe Quesada, and a look at how the rumor got started in the first place.

– Wrapping things up on the Marvel front with far more fun news, The Beat also compiled the many teases that artist Jen Bartel released for her upcoming shoe-centric, Captain Marvel collaboration with Adidas. Bartel’s Carol Danvers-inspired shoe design will be revealed March 8, the same day that Captain Marvel hits theaters.

– Cartoonist Gahan Wilson (“Nuts”)’s stepson is seeking support for his stepfather’s memory care. Wilson’s wife passed away recently and, according to his stepson, Wilson is about to be discharged from the assisted living facility that the couple shared. If you’d like to contribute to Wilson’s care, you can do so via this GoFundMe page.

– According to Bleeding Cool, Image is ending their Image Direct subscription service. The service allowed readers to order Image titles directly from the publisher and have them delivered to their door. The program will run through this Wednesday, according to an email printed within the Bleeding Cool article.

Riverdale and Beverly Hills 90210 star Luke Perry passed away at the age of 52, according to Variety. The actor suffered a massive stroke last Wednesday, and passed away at home surrounded by family. Tributes from Riverdale‘s executive producers and his fellow cast members can be read here.

– Per Deadline, Jared Harris (Mad Men, The Crown) has joined Jared Leto in the cast of Morbius. Harris’s role is under wraps, but Leto will play the vampiric Spider-Man villain in the Sony movie, which will be released July 31, 2020.

Deadline also has word that actors Santiago Cabrera (Salvation) and Michelle Hurd (Blindspot) are set to co-star with Patrick Stewart in CBS All Access’s upcoming Captain Picard-focused Star Trek series. No details have yet been revealed about who the actors are playing, though Deadline has some unverified guesses.

– And finally, the long awaited One-Punch Man season 2 is set to begin on Hulu on April 9, according to Anime News Network. This will be preceded by a special in Japan on April 2: broadcast details for the US remain unknown at this time.
