In case you missed it, DC Comics announced relaunches for “Wonder Woman” and “The Flash,” and creative teams for “Hawkgirl” and “Steelworks.”

– AHOY Comics unveiled a five-part miniseries called “Con & On,” by writer Paul Cornell and artist Marika Cresta. The series will, according to Cornell, satirically explore “the story of the last few decades of modern comics,” and be a “real mirror of the panorama of conventions,” Cresta added. Each issue will take place at a different year’s iteration of the fictional Vista Al Mar Comics Festival, and depict the experiences of different individuals from across the industry, ranging from fans and comic creators with big dreams, to established and successful creators, and TV stars whose spotlights have faded. “Con & On” #1 is scheduled to be released on July 12.

– Writer Chip Zdarsky revealed that his and artist Marco Checchetto’s time on “Daredevil” is set to end in August. The announcement came in the form of a teaser that reads “This is what God has done,” and “The Saga Ends,” alongside a black-and-white drawing of Daredevil’s cowl disintegrating. The pair’s time on the title began in 2019, and had a volume of 36 issues, before chronicling Elektra’s time as Daredevil in the three-part series, “Daredevil: The Woman Without Fear,” during the event series “Devil’s Reign.” Matt Murdock returned to the cowl in July 2022 with a new #1. A new creative team for the title has yet to be announced. If the Marvel series continues monthly, Zdarsky and Checchetto’s time on the title will conclude with the release of “Daredevil” #14 in August. You can check out Zdarsky’s tweet with the teaser image here.

– Marvel unveiled their Star Wars solicitations for June 2023, which include “Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2” #1 by writer Rodney Barnes and artist Georges Jeanty, and a one-shot called “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi – The Empire,” by writer Jody Houser and artist Jethro Morales. “Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2” #1 will adapt “Chapter Nine: The Marshal,” which saw Mando and Grogu exploring the Outer Rim and getting involved with the problems of a town under the jurisdiction of Marshal Cobb Vanth. Meanwhile, Jody Houser and Jethro Morales’s one-shot, part of the 40th anniversary celebration of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, will follow a technician on Endor who tries to adapt to life under the rule of the Empire. Head over to StarWars.com for the full list of solicitations.

– In further Star Wars news, Dark Horse announced two new “Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures” collections. The first will be “The Complete Phase I” by writer Daniel José Older, artist Harvey Tolibao, colorist Rebecca Nalty and letterer Jake M. Wood; it will collect all 13 issues of IDW’s “Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures,” alongside “a new epilogue story,” and “The High Republic Adventures: Galactic Bake-Off Spectacular.” The all-ages series follows Jedi Padawans, Lula, Farzala, and Qort, as they travel with their masters Torban “Buckets of Blood” Buck and Yoda to Trymant IV, a planet that has just been attacked by the Nihil.

The second collection will be “Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: The Monster of Temple Peak and Other Stories.” It will bring together the four-part mini-series, “Monster of Temple Peak,” by writer Cavan Scott and artist Rachael Stott, alongside the short stories from “The High Republic Adventures Annual 2021.” “Monster of Temple Peak” follows Ty Yorrick as she (accompanied by her droid KL-03) takes on the Gretalax, a monster that is feared by the people of the planet Loreth. Dark Horse relaunched “Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures” in November 2022. “Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures — The Complete Phase I” is scheduled for release on July 18 and 19, 2023, in book shops and comics shops respectively, with “The Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures: The Monster of Temple Peak and Other Stories” following on October 10 and 11, 2023, in book and comics shops respectively.

– Dark Horse Comics teamed with Yoe Books for “Cartoonists Against Racism: The Secret Jewish War on Bigotry” by writers Rafael Medoff and Craig Yoe. The graphic novel will uncover a Jewish organization’s campaign through the 1940s and 1950s to tackle bigotry by “[flooding] America’s newspapers, classrooms, and union halls with anti-racist comics and cartoons.” “Cartoonists Against Racism” will bring together anti-racism artwork from a range of individuals such as Bill Mauldin and Vaughn Shoemaker, Dave Berg, Mac Raboy, and more. “Cartoonists Against Racism: The Secret Jewish War on Bigotry,” which will feature a foreword by Prof. Susannah Heschel of Dartmouth, has book shop and comic shop release dates of November 28 and 29, 2023, respectively.

– Disney+ released a teaser trailer for the upcoming series, American Born Chinese, revealing the adaption of Gene Luen Yang’s graphic novel will debut on Disney+ on May 24. The trailer gives a glimpse at the blurring of reality and mythology that is about to occur in the life of Jin Wang (Ben Wang), the son of Chinese immigrants who is struggling to fit in at high school; as Michelle Yeoh’s Guanyin describes, “the fate of [his] world hangs in the balance.” The trailer also reveals Ke Huy Quan as Freddy Wong and Stephanie Hsu as Shiji Niangniang. You can watch the teaser here.

– Speaking of Everything Everywhere All at Once‘s cast, this year’s Oscars saw history being made, and not just because Yeoh became the first Asian woman to win Best Actress: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever costume designer Ruth E. Carter was awarded Best Costume Design, making her the first Black woman to ever win two Oscars. Carter, who also won the Academy Award for the first film, dedicated her win to her mother, who died last week, asking Chadwick Boseman to look after her in Heaven. You can check out the year’s full list of winners here.

THR reported that the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again‘s first episode will be directed by Michael Cuesta (Homeland), and Sandrine Holt (Better Call Saul) has joined the cast in the role of Vanessa Fisk. Whilst Cuesta’s directorial involvement is believed to be limited to the series opener, with as-yet-unknown directors set to take the reins of batches of episodes, the size of Holt’s role as Vanessa Fisk is still unknown. Notably, Holt’s casting is the first known recasting on the series from its Netflix predecessor, where Vanessa was portrayed by Ayelet Zurer. Most recently, Jon Bernthal was confirmed to be returning as Frank Castle/The Punisher in the series. Daredevil: Born Again is set to enter production this month and debut on Disney+ in 2024.

– Finally, the Herb Block Foundation named Ann Telnaes as their 2023 Prize Winner. Telnaes is currently an editorial cartoonist for The Washington Post. Telnaes’s recent work has encompassed the banning of books, the overturning of the Roe v. Wade ruling, and the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. One of the judges of the prize, Signe Wilkinson, specifically cited Telnaes’s work on the latter as a “a tour de force masterpiece.” The Herb Block Foundation created the Prize in 2004 to highlight an individual’s “excellence in editorial cartooning,” and “to encourage editorial cartooning as an essential tool for preserving the rights of the American people through freedom of speech and the right of expression.” You can read more about Telnaes and see a portfolio of her work at the Foundation’s website.
