– Via ICv2, Graphix have announced “Pearl,” written by Sherri L. Smith (“Avatar: The High Ground”) with art by Christine Norrie (“Hopeless Savages”). This middle-grade graphic novel follows Amy, a Japanese American girl, who is trapped in Hiroshima when World War II breaks out. There, she works for the Japanese army as a translator. “Pearl” will be published in both hardcover and trade paperback, and will be available for purchase on August 6, 2024. It will retail at 144 pages respectively for $24.99, and $12.99.
– In celebration of 50 years of “Giant Size” issues, Marvel have announced “Giant-Size Daredevil” #1, written by Saladin Ahmed with art by Paul Davidson. The story will follow none other than Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin. Empowered by unknown forces, Kingpin stalks the streets of Manhattan, and no matter how quickly Daredevil tries to track him down, there will be blood. The oversized comic will also feature a reprinted story, “Daredevil” #170 by Frank Miller. “Giant-Size Daredevil” #1 will hit comic shelves on June 12, 2024.
– Deadline reports that Gallery 13, a division of Simon & Schuster, have announced “The Venetian,” a graphic novel created by actor Giancarlo Esposito, screenwriter Matt Wheeler, and writer & storyboard artist Jay Martin. The book is described as “a modern noir set in the crumbling Venice underbelly with Giancarlo’s protagonist at its heart.” When discussing the project, Esposito said “I am excited to be a part of this profoundly dynamic project, ‘The Venetian.’ An action-packed character driven graphic novel, it’s an unusual original story that exemplifies my deeply rich Afro-Italian heritage.” A release date was not given.
– La Borinqueña creator Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez has launched “Lúz La Luminosa,” a one-shot spin-off with artist Elkys Nova Díaz, to help mark Endometriosis Awareness Month. A Chinese Dominican superheroine with bioluminescent powers, Lúz La Luminosa is also a student who lives with endometriosis, a condition of the uterus that affects 176 million people globally, including Miranda-Rodriguez’s wife Kyung Jeon-Miranda. The comic, available now from the official La Borinqueña website, features an afterword from Dr. Idhaliz Flores, the founder of the Fundacion Puertorriqueña de Pacientes con Endometriosis (ENDOPR), further helping raise awareness of the condition.
– Via ComicBook.com, Sony have announced that all eight live-action Spider-Man movies will be rereleased in theaters this year, to help mark the 100th anniversary of Columbia Pictures. Kicking off on Monday, April 13, with Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man film, each subsequent movie will be released weekly until Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will be released on Monday, June 3. – Variety reports that Bill Hader has been cast in Warner Bros.’s animated reboot of The Cat in the Hat. Rounding out the rest of the ensemble are Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, Xochitl Gomez, Matt Berry, and Paula Pell. Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoja are writing and directing the movie, with Daniela Mazzucato and Jared Stern serving as producers. The Cat in the Hat is set to hit theaters on March 6, 2026.
– Finally, Lucasfilm have revealed a teaser poster for Star Wars: The Acolyte. The poster features a lightsaber on the ground, with blood streaking above it, resembling the traditional Sith lightsaber. The series will follow a well-respected Jedi, as they investigate a shocking crime spree which will “lead them on a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.” You can check out the teaser poster here. The Acolyte is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 4, 2024.
