GWAR is returning to comics! The blood-soaked band of the 80s is coming back with their second comic series co-written by Matt Maguire (band member Sawborg Destructo) and Matt Miner with art from Jonathan Brandon Sawyer. The ode to “comics, grindhouse movies, and heavy metal,” “GWAR: Orgasmageddon” hits stores in June from Dynamite. The series was originally Kickstarted, which likely means that backers will (hopefully) get the comic early, and that there will be no delays in production, as it is likely already (or close to) finished.

– How do you get the one up on bands and orgasms? You throw in vampires. Dynamite announced their second musical group comic today, teasing the advent of a “KISS/Vampirella”crossover. Coming in June from Chris Sebela and Annapaola Martello this series follows the team up between the 70s rock group and the scantily clad vampire. The rock and roll group team with the rocking and rolling vampire to end a scheme that could end rock n’ roll forever.

– Dynamite also announced “Blood Brothers” today from Fabian Rangel Jr. and Javier Caba. The series follows two brothers, Diego and Gabriel Solisz, who are detectives in a town overrun with characters from mythology and fantasy. Much like the Gwar comic, the series was originally presented as a Kickstarter, which was successfully funded last year. Look for this series to drop in June.

– Not to be outdone on the mythology front, Kirkman’s Skybound imprint at Image also announced a series with its roots in mythology, specifically Greek. “Kill the Minotaur” seeks to offer a modern retelling of Theseus and the Minotaur from Red Dead Redemption creators Chris Pasetto and Christan Cantamessa and artist Lukas Ketner. Fresh from Crete, this series is coming to store near you June 14th.

– Dynamite really needs to stop announcing shit, I’m getting tired of writing. Yet another series coming from the publisher as they showcase their continued partnership with Dresden Files author Jim Butcher by announcing a new series from him, co-writer Mark Powers and artist Diego Galindo. The new series, “The Dresden Files: Dog Men” takes place right after the novel White Night and the graphic novel “Down Town!” The series (you guessed it) is also in stores in June!

– For better or for worse, “For Better or For Worse” is getting a complete collection in nine separate books. The beloved comic strip that ran from 1979 to 2008 followed the life of the Patterson family as they grew up in real time. IDW and the Library of American Comics is teaming up for the Lynn Johnston series, with the first book debuting in October, and every three volumes covering a full decade of the comic strip.

– Garth Ennis is getting a new series (not from Dynamite) from Aftershock called “Jimmy’s Bastards” with artist Russ Braun who Ennis has worked with before. The series follows a James Bond-esque character who finally gets to pay for sleeping with so many woman (I get the feeling this isn’t gonna be a Jimmy gets chlamydia story). The series, which “HAD to be told at Aftershock Comics” is also debuting in June.

– Lot of Arrowverse news coming out of PaleyFest this weekend. It was confirmed that there will be a surprise cameo in Legend of Tomorrow’s penultimate episode, as well as a really big easter egg for fans of DC’s cartoon projects (perhaps a call back to the Harley Quinn cameo in an earlier Suicide Squad episode of Arrow?) The Flash showrunner Andrew Kreisberg also confirmed that the shows fourth season will NOT have a speedster as the main villain. Thank God.

– In Marvel Comic news, “Ghost Rider” is hitting the chopping block early, ending with issue #5 in March. The previously solicited #6 has been cancelled. This follows a number of series that did not appear in Marvel’s May solicits including “Black Panther: World of Wakanda,” “Silver Surfer,” “Silk,” “Great Lakes Avengers,” “Thunderbolts,” “Gamora,” and “Deadpool & The Mercs for Money.” “Thunderbolts” will supposedly pick back up following “Secret Empire.” Look for more series to begin and cancel in Marvel’s June solicits scheduled to debut at noon eastern time today.
