In case you missed it, publisher First Second Books has announced a pair of new graphic novels: M.T. Anderson and Jo Rioux’s Medieval fantasy book “The Daughters of Ys,” and Bryan Caplan and Zach Weinersmith’s educational “Open Borders: The Science and Ethics of Immigration.” We also have exclusive previews of next week’s “Jughead: The Hunger” #13 and “Star Wars: Vader – Dark Visions” #2.

– Newsarama reported that James O’Barr’s “The Crow” will crossover with Tim Seeley’s “Hack/Slash.” Published by IDW, Tim Seeley will write and provide art for the four-issue series, which sees Cassie Hack and her partner Vlad on the trail of a mysterious murderer dubbed “the Crow Killer” that turns out to actually be a new Crow in the mythos. Seeley said “No doubt about it – without O’Barr’s original ‘The Crow,’ there would never have been a ‘Hack/Slash,'” and added “mixing Cassie, Vlad, and The Crow has been in the making for 25 years, and my buddy Jim Terry and I cannot wait to unleash it on the world.” “The Crow: Hack/Slash” will kick off in June.

– And speaking of Tim Seeley, Bleeding Cool reports that he will be the new Managing Editor of Heavy Metal Magazine. Seeley said “To me, Heavy Metal represents what comic books can do best…presenting lots and lots of outrageously compelling and slightly dangerous ideas. It’s pure, unrestrained creation.” Publisher Kevin Eastman said “Tim is a true triple-threat, an incredibly talented writer, artist and creator – I’m a huge fan and couldn’t be more thrilled he’s joining the team.” Heavy Metal Magazine CEO Jeff Krelitz added, “We are lucky to have him.” Heavy Metal Magazine #293, out April 17th, will feature Seeley’s first story, an adaptation of the band Megadeth’s song, “Holy Wars,” illustrated by Ignacio Calero with colors by Carlos Cabrera.

– IDW announced they will publish “The Haunted Mansion,” an original graphic novel based on the Disneyland attraction, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Written by Sina Grace (“Iceman”) with art by Egle Bartolini (“Disney Princess Comics”), this new graphic novel will be aimed at middle-grade readers (ages 8-12). Sina Grace said ” I am utterly thrilled to join the 999 happy haunts with a story full of laughs, gasps, and a few surprises! The Haunted Mansion is one of the most iconic attractions in all of Disneyland, and I am so honored to be writing a tale commemorating its historic 50th anniversary.” “The Haunted Mansion” Original Graphic Novel will be released in September.

Newsweek reports the next collaboration between Disney and Dark Horse will be an adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. The three-issue series will introduce readers to a new side of the iconic heroine: written by Cecil Castellucci (“Shade, the Changing Girl”) and featuring art by Gabriele Bagnoli (“Steven Universe”), the book’s description says “Snow is more than a damsel in distress; she possesses a heart and soul that yearns for knowledge, love, and acceptance.” “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” #1 will hit comic book stores on June 16, 2019.

– In other Dark Horse news, the publisher has promoted Daniel Chabon to senior editor. Chabon began working for Dark Horse on Mike Mignola’s “Hellboy” as an assistant editor, and has edited work from Neil Gaiman, Jeff Lemire, Matt Kindt, Margaret Atwood, Dave McKean, William Gibson, James Stokoe among others. “I’m very happy for Daniel Chabon, who has become a big part of the Black Hammer family,” said Black Hammer co-creator Jeff Lemire. Multiversity Comics sends our congratulations to Daniel Chabon for his new role at Dark Horse.

– Dynamite announced the third volume of “White Sand” from Brandon Sanderson, Rik Hoskin (“Red Rising”), and Fritz Casas (“Red Sonja”). “It has been a pleasure working with Dynamite and a highlight of my career to see one of my stories told so well in this medium,” Sanderson says. “White Sand” Vol. 3 is set to be released in June.

– In a tweet, Scott Snyder teased a new collaboration with artist Francesco Francavilla. The tweet reads “It’s Coming” followed by the hashtag #NOTG. Francavilla retweeted the image along with the #NOTG hashtag.

– The 2019 Daytime Emmy nominations have been announced and Cartoon Brew reports that Netflix’s Hilda, produced by Silvergate Media and Mercury Filmworks, received four nominations for its debut season, including writing and directing. Ducktales also receieved nominations in Special Class Animated Program and Casting for an Animated Series or Special. To see the full list of nominations, click here.
