– Via AIPT, Titan Comics have announced “Girl Rebels,” a new graphic novel anthology, written by Laurent Hopman, Fabien Morin and Julien Derain, with art by Gigé, Jocelyn Joret, Brett Parson, and Vittoria Macioci. The book examines the lives and some little-known stories about six incredible young activists: Malala Yousafzai, Greta Thunberg, Yusra Mardini, X Gonzalez (listed in the synopsis under their deadname) and the Parkland Kids, and Melati & Isabel Wijsen. The book will be available on October 29, 2024. You can view a preview here.
– Via Starburst Magazine, Titan also announced the first-ever collection of “2 Dumb Dinos,” a digital comic strip written by Eric Filipkowski with art from Nathan Hamill. The comic strips have been released consistently on Instagram over the last five years, with over 230 strips to date. The synopsis reads, “Referencing everything from BK Joes, to Chinese spy balloons, to missing Top Secret White House documents to the latest Hollywood blockbuster! This collection of the cult digital comic strips, available or the first time ever in book form, is a celebration of the glorious tradition of the American newspaper Funnies.” Titan have also revealed a new cover, which you can see here. “2 Dumb Dinos” will be released on September 3, 2024.
– DSTLRY have announced that Scott Snyder and Francesco Francavilla’s upcoming horror series “White Boat” has received an official accompanying soundtrack from acclaimed musician Noel Heroux (founder of Hooray for Earth.) The soundtrack is described as an “oceanic noise terror soundtrack,” and will debut as a premium 7-inch vinyl, signed by Heroux, Snyder, and Francavilla. You can pre-order the soundtrack, which releases in June, at your local comic book store. “White Boat” debuts on May 15, 2024.
– Marvel, in collaboration with NetEase Games, have announced Marvel Rivals, a cooperative, free-to-play team-based PVP shooter. Players will be able to access more than a dozen of characters, including Black Panther, Spider-Man, Magneto, and Magik. The game features a story about Doctor Doom clashing with his counterpart from 2099, that will lead players across Marvel’s multiverse for playable maps and arenas. Marvel Rivals is currently in development, with Alpha tests scheduled to begin on PC in May.
– Via Popverse, in celebration of Batman’s 85th anniversary, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC have announced a number of of comic book giveaways across New York City on March 30, centered around a pop-up at SoHo News International, which will be transformed to resemble a classic newsstand with facsimile issues of “Detective Comics” #27, while supplies last. There will be several other locations giving out copies of the issue. You can find those locations here.
– Via Attractions Magazine, Disney have announced Small World with Groot, a redress of the classic attraction coming to Tokyo Disneyland in Winter 2025. The attraction will feature a number of other Marvel characters, including other members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Captain America (Sam Wilson), the Mighty Thor (Jane Foster), Ms. Marvel, Black Panther (Shuri), and Professor Hulk to name a few. The move comes after the January 2024 closure of The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, and the rights reverting back to Disney after Universal’s Marvel contract in Japan expired. More Marvel characters will make their debut at Tokyo Disneyland in a new nighttime spectacular scheduled to begin on September 20, 2024.
– Variety reports that Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot have tapped Steve Yockey, creator of The Flight Attendant, to serve as the screenwriter for Star Trek 4. Matt Shakman was to serve as the film’s director before leaving the project for Marvel’s The Fantastic Four reboot. Star Trek 4 is slated to be the final project set within the rebooted franchise, which began in 2009 under J.J. Abrams.
– Additionally, this month’s Variety cover story examines the future of the whole Star Trek franchise. The article takes a look at what franchise producer Alex Kurtzman has in store for fans: not only is Star Trek Discovery gearing up for its final voyage, but Paramount+ will soon feature the return of Strange New Worlds, as well as the TV feature film starring Michelle Yeoh, Section 31, and Starfleet Academy, which will take place in the 32nd century.
