-Variety magazine reported today that Joss Whedon is in talks with Warner Brothers to direct and produce a stand-alone Batgirl movie. This project is about a month, old being overseen by Toby Emmerich, President and Chief Content Officer of Warner Bros. Pictures Group with Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. Whedon, creator of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Dollhouse, their various spinoffs and writer and director of several Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, including Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron,” would be a huge coup for the Distinguished Competition. Ten years ago, Whedon was attached to write/direct a Wonder Woman film, but that never materialized. The film is rumored to be focused on the “New 52” iteration of the character. These are just rumors and reports at the moment, so any excitement about it may be a bit premature.

Get Out director Jordan Peele is apparently being courted to direct Warner Brother’s live action version of Akira. Peele possibly joins or supplants Daniel Espinosa of Life and David Sandberg of Lights Out on the shortlist to direct the film. He is also rumored to be in talks with Warners to helm the now-directorless Flash film.

-Telltale Games released a trailer for their Guardians of the Galaxyvideo game, coming April 18th for PS4 and X-Box One. The game pits the Guardians against Thanos, and includes all the snark that you would hope for from a GotG game.

-During C2E2, Pipeworks Brewing Company will be releasing an X-O Manowar branded beer called Galactic Golden Ale, linking to a new story about Aric’s conquest of an alien planet. The label features art by Valiant mainstay Lewis LaRosa. The release party will be on April 21st at 7pm at the Cobra Lounge (235 N. Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL 60607); part of the proceeds from the sales of X-O Manowar Galactic Golden Ale will go to Hope for the Day, a suicide prevention and mental health educations organization. There will be a $5 door charge at the event RSVP here.

-Lastly, more teasers have been released for DC/WB Games and Netherrealm’s Injustice 2, coming May 16th for PS4 and X-Box One. Gorilla Grodd, Captain Cold, Bane and Scarecrow star in an ‘It’s good to be bad’ video, featuring them beating down various heroes including Superman.
