– Marvel have announced “X-Men: Days of Future Past – Doomsday,” written by Marc Guggenheim with art from Manuel García. This four-part series will depict what happened prior to Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s original ‘Days of Future Past’ storyline, when the assassination of Senator Kelly causes the Mutant Control Act to pass, placing Sentinels on every street. The official summary reads, “With mutantkind on the back foot, what lengths will Kate Pryde, Wolverine, Colossus, Storm, Banshee, Cyclops, Angel, Professor X, and the rest of the X-Men go in order to find some way to survive? And what scheme of Magneto will bring about their ultimate Doomsday?” Sporting a cover by Geoff Shaw, “X-Men: Days of Future Past – Doomsday” #1 will be available July 12, 2023.

– Via Twitter, Alice Oseman announced the release of “Heartstopper” Vol. 5. The fifth volume of the webcomic will be released November 9, 2023 in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The U.S. edition will be released December 12, 2023. Furthermore, Oseman announced a sixth and final volume of the series, with details yet to be revealed.

– Via Monkeys Fighting Robots, Dark Horse announced “Birdking” Vol. 2, written by Daniel Freedman with art by CROM. The official summary for the sequel reads, “Bianca and Birdking continue their quest to reach Atlas, entering the domain of Hinnom, an insurmountable mountain range that is the birthplace of a dead dark empire and the battlefield in the war between the kingdoms of the North and South. Old friends, new allies, and scores of enemies await them there. No one has ever crossed Hinnom alive. But maybe Bianca and Birdking might just make it. Then again, maybe they won’t.” “Birdking” Vol. 2 will be available in comics shops November 15, 2023.

– Via Gizmodo, Gail Simone will return to the character of Red Sonja for an all-new original novel. Simone first wrote the character for Dynamite Entertainment in 2013. For her first prose novel, Simone said, “I’m used to having a brilliant artist realize the surrounding details of the story, here, I am tasked to do that myself, with the reader as co-conspirator and visual artist. It’s an electric process… I love it.” Gail Simone’s Red Sonja novel will be available from Orbit Publishing in the summer of 2024.

– Via Variety, the MTV Movie & TV Award nominations have been announced. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever earned three nods, namely Best Movie, Best Kick-Ass Cast, and Best Song, while Wednesday earned four nominations, with three of the four highlighting Jenna Ortega for Best Performance in a Show, Best Hero, and Best Duo. Wednesday was also nominated for Best Show. Fans can vote on the show from now until April 17 at 6 p.m. ET. The MTV Movie & TV Awards will be broadcast on May 7 at 8 p.m. ET.

Variety also reports that Ryan Michelle Bathé has been cast in a leading role in CBS’s comedy pilot based on the “JumpStart” comic strip. Bathé will star opposite of previously announced cast member Terry Crews. Crews will play Joe, a cop, while Bathé plays his wife Marcy. CBS’s official logline for the show reads “Joe and Marcy are young, hip, urban parents with old school values who are willing to sacrifice for their kids and have some laughs while doing it!” Robb Armstrong, the creator of “JumpStart,” will co-executive produce.

– Rounding out the news from Variety, TBS will develop an animated series based on “Hellicious,” created by Mina Elwell, Alan C. Medina, Kit Wallis, and Simon Oré. Per the official logline, Hellicious “follows Cherry, the Devil’s precocious 7-year-old granddaughter, who steals the Heaven-bound soul of rock-goth icon Briggy Bundy. The unlikely duo stumble upon forgotten realms of the afterlife while evading Cherry’s mother and an agent from heaven sent to reclaim Briggy’s soul.” Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis is attached to star as Bundy, and will serve as an executive producer.

– Finally, via Deadline, Warner Bros. have shifted the release date of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom from December 25, 2023, to Wednesday December 20, 2023. The sequel is once again directed by James Wan from a screenplay written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Jason Momoa returns as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, and joining him are Patrick Wilson as Orm, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Amber Heard as Mera, and Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin. It will mark the fourth DC movie release of the year, after Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle.
