Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.

– Kicking off, Sony has found its Miles Morales in “Dope” actor Shameik Moore. Both Moore and Liev Schrieber were cast today in the upcoming animated Spider-Man flick. The film is scheduled to hit theatres sometime in 2018 and is directed by Bob Persichetti (The Little Prince) and Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians) and executive produced by The LEGO Movie collaborators Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

– Arrow  added both Rick Gonzalez and Juliana Harkavy as series regulars for season 6 as well. Gonzalez plays vigilante Wild Dog who was recruited to team Arrow at the beginning of season 5, while Harkavy plays Dinah Drake a Central City cop who was caught in the particular accelerator explosion gaining sonic powers and being primed to be the new Black Canary.

– As if “Watchmen” wasn’t getting enough Rebirth fame, it appears the infamous 12-issue series is getting an R-rated animated film adaptation. The series, while already having been adapted in a motion comic and a divisive Zach Snyder film in 2009, was revealed to be getting an animated adaptation in a recent Warner Bros survey. Somewhere Alan Moore is sacrificing a goat in anger.

– “Locke & Key” is not done yet. The IDW series from writer Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez is getting a new hardcover in July called the“Locke & Key: Heaven and Earth Deluxe Hardcover Edition” which will collect the story “Open the Moon” (nominated for an Eisner) as well as “Grindhouse” and “In the Can.” The completionist in you can get the hardcover on July 26.

– Building on yesterday’s tweet, Tom King tweeted an image of the New God Orion today with the caption “I need some older, wiser being to cry to. I talk to God, but the sky is empty, and Orion walks by and doesn’t speak,” a quote from Sylvia Plath. This follows his Big Barda/Mister Miracle picture yesterday which further adds to speculation that he’s penning a “New Gods” series, perhaps with “Sheriff of Babylon” collaborator Mitch Gerards.

– Humanoids released a trailer for the graphic novel “Savage Highway,” set to be released next week. The book, from writer Mathieu Masmondet and artist Zhang Xiaoyu, is a “grounded Sci-Fi tale of two polar opposites who are forced to unite to survive in a violent post-cataclysmic world.” Look for it April 19th.

– After 25 years of existence Bloodshot is getting a day off. Valiant today revealed that the antihero Bloodshot is getting a special anniversary one-shot called “Bloodshot’s Day Off” written by Eliot Rahal with art from Khari Evans which takes place in the aftermath of Jeff Lemire’s recently wrapped “Bloodshot Reborn” series. Look for the issue to be released in the down time of the summer on July 5.

– While the July solicits from most companies are not out yet (next week will be a different story) some solicits have already been revealed. For DC this has shown that indeed “Deathstroke” and also “Aquaman” are going monthly, but has quelled rumors of Christopher Priest’s departure from “Deathstroke” as he is staying and also giving the assassin his own Teen Titans. Starting with #21 following “The Lazarus Contract,” Deathstroke will get a team of The New 52 Power Girl, Kid Flash, his kids Rose and Jericho, and Terra. This awesome turn of events happens in July.

– Finally, remember that swanky magazine DC put out back in November called Direct Currents (DC get it) that showcase Phase 2 of Rebirth and the “Justice League vs Suicide Squad” storyline? Turns out, #2 has been cancelled after being delayed twice. What a fun concept down the tubes. Wonder what actually happened?
