– The upcoming video game Life is Strange: True Colors will be receiving a prequel comic book from Titan Comics in their Silver Free Comic Book Day title. The book will be written by Emma Vieceli with art by Claudia Leonardi, and bridge the events between the previous games and True Colors. The issue will feature the first appearance of Alex Chen, the lead character of the upcoming game, as well as appearances from past Life is Strange fan favorites. Free Comic Book Day 2021 is currently scheduled for August 14 at comic book shops around the world, while the Life is Strange: True Colors video game is set to drop on September 10.

– Former “Captain America” writer Ed Brubaker has revealed that he received more compensation for his cameo appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier than he did for creating the Winter Soldier with Steve Epting. Brubaker appeared on Kevin Smith’s Fatman Beyond podcast to talk about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series on Disney+, and expressed his disappointment over how Marvel had treated him and other creators. He went on to explain that he turned down a check that was offered to him for Captain America: Civil War because he found the sum of money insulting, especially after how much his work had inspired the film. In 2004, Brubaker and Epting began their years long saga on “Captain America,” resurrecting Bucky Barnes under the guise of the Winter Soldier while creating stories that would later be used as inspiration for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite his grievances, Brubaker made sure to clarify that he has been treated well by many of the individuals at Marvel Studios, including actor Sebastian Stan, and hopes that people enjoy watching the shows and movies.

– Marvel has announced the next two losers of their X-Men vote ahead of the ‘Hellfire Gala.’ In a six-panel sequence by Zeb Wells, Diego Olortegui, and Rachelle Rosenberg, Cannonball and Sunspot learn that they have lost the vote and will not be joining the X-Men team, leaving the two best friends to joke about which of them got more votes. This is the third short comic that has revealed some of the event’s losers, with previous comics letting readers know that Tempo, Boom-Boom, Strong Guy, and Forge are also out of the running for the coveted position. The only members of the vote that are still up for contention are Polaris and Banshee. Presumably, readers will find out who the newest X-Men is when the ‘Hellfire Gala’ takes place in June.

– Indonesian singer and actress Agnez Mo will be launching a graphic novel through publisher Z2 Comics, based off of her hit song “Long As I Get Paid.” The book, titled “Don’t Wake Up,” will be written by Karla Pacheco (“Spider-Woman”) and illustrated by Peter V. Nguyen (“Detective Comics”) with Andres Labrada. The story follows an avenging angel who walks the space between dreams and reality, and whose penchant for delivering justice means bad news for John, an art dealer. The book is expected to be released in the fall.

– The nominees for the 2021 Eisner Awards Hall of Fame have been announced. The nominees include six individuals who will automatically be welcomed into the Hall of Fame, such as longtime Archie artist Stan Goldber, editor Francoise Mouly, and cartoonist Thomas Nast. The class of nominees features writer Neil Gaiman, artist Dave Cockrum, writer/artist Kevin Eastman, writer Grant Morrison, cartoonist Scott McCloud, and artist Klaus Janson, among others. The winners will be announced in a virtual ceremony this July as part of Comic-Con@Home.

– Korean webtoon “Hell” will be translated into an English-language edition via Dark Horse Comics. The translated series will be titled “The Hellbound,” and the first volume will be released on October 26. Creators Yeon Sang-ho (who directed Train to Busan) and Choi Gyu-seik are currently adapting the comic into a Netflix series, which will also be called Hellbound. “The Hellbound” takes place in a world where people are told that they are going to Hell, complete with a timer that tells them when they will pass away. As the world adjusts to this horrifying phenomenon, religious zealots view it as a sign of divine intervention, while others desperately try to escape their fate.

– Ubisoft have formed a partnership with manga publisher Jump Comics to create one-shot books based on their library of games. Jump is responsible for the long-running series “Weekly Shonen Jump,” the anthology that distributes new stories for popular franchises such as “My Hero Academia,” “Hunter x Hunter,” and “One Piece.” Their first collaboration, a story called ‘Happy Vaas Day’ based on Far Cry 3, is now available. Future one-shots will focus on Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs, and The Division. The current deal is limited to these four stories, with no further collaborations announced at this time.

– Additionally, Ubisoft has announced a collaboration with Italian publisher Star Comics. This collaboration will see the publisher produce books and graphic novels based on the Ubisoft library of video games, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs. While the full details of the deal are still a mystery, Star Comics have stated that they will be producing a short story based on the events of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as one of their first projects.

– Lastly, costume designer Robert Fletcher has passed away at the age of 98. Fletcher spent six decades working on stage productions, films, and television shows. Many fans will remember him for his costume designs for the first four Star Trek films, which earned him multiple Saturn Award nominations, and ultimately a win in 1987 for his work on Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Beyond that, Fletcher was nominated for three Tony Awards for his work on the productions of Hadrian VII, Little Me, and High Spirits. A spokesman for the Fletcher family said that he passed away peacefully.
