Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.
In case you missed it, Mark Millar and Mateo Scalero are launching a new Netflix/Image book, “Space Bandits,” in July.
– Freelance cartoonist Darrin Bell has won this year’s Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning. Best known for his work with the Washington Post, Bell’s work can be found here. Congratulations, Darrin!
– ‘Spider-Gwen No More’ is the teaser Marvel sent out today ahead of their July solicitations. “Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider-Man” #10, written by Seanan McGuire and illustrated by Takeshi Miyazawa, seems to be misdirecting fans to think that Gwen is hanging up her costume, but that seems a bit unlikely, due to the popularity of the character, especially due to her appearance in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
– When you think about the ‘ultimate cartoon book,’ you probably don’t think of comedian/banjo player Steve Martin, do you? Well you should, fool! Martin is writing an untitled book with that self-ascribed descriptor with illustrations by The New Yorker‘s Harry Bliss. It remains to be seen what sort of book it will be, but expect the unexpected from these two wild and crazy guys.
– Pop Culture Classroom announced both fiction and non-fiction nominees in four categories today, based on age groups, for graphic storytelling. Some highlights include “Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepus Chronicles” by Mark Russell and Mike Feehan, “On a Sunbeam” by Tillie Walden, and “Action Presidents” by Fred Van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey.
– Amir Nasrabadi, formerly of Pixar, is moving over to DHX to help oversee their animation division, including the new Peanuts content they are creating exclusively for Apple. We don’t have too many details about these new adventures of Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and the rest of the gang, but we are very happy that they are being brought back into the spotlight.
– Good news for gamers! DC Universe is now available to stream via X-Box One. With more and more people using their consoles to stream entertainment, it is a good move for DC to get on the X-Box platform.
– The showrunners for FX’s upcoming Y: The Last Man adaptation have, apparently, been fired from the project. There’s no word yet on how seriously, if not totally, this will affect the show’s production heading forward, if producing is, indeed, going to continue.
– And, finally, if you couldn’t sleep not knowing who Tyrese Gibson was playing in the Morbius: The Living Vampire film, get your pillows and blankets in order: Agent Stroud. You’re welcome!
