– Via Newsarama, IDW have announced “My Little Pony 40th Anniversary Special.” This 100-page one-shot features three stories, the first of which is from Sam Maggs and Keisha Okafor, and is set in the ’80s with the G1 Ponies. The second story is set in the current G5 universe, and is by the creative team of Jeremy Whitley and Amy Mebberson. Finally, the third story, by Tony Fleecs and Brianna Garcia, follows an aunt and niece finding some old MLP toys to provide entertainment during a power outage. “My Little Pony 40th Anniversary Special” will be available for purchase July 12, 2023.
– Via ICv2, Apex Comics have announced “The R.I.G.H.T. Project” from Tom DeFalco, Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema. The book follows a teen gamer who uses new technology to convert a digital creation into a real-life superhero, and will feature three complete stories. “The R.I.G.H.T. Project” was originally crowdfunded on Indiegogo, however the book will be available in comic shops due to a distribution deal with American Mythology Productions. “The R.I.G.H.T. Project” will be available on June 28, 2023.
– Via Anime News Network, the results of the ‘Narutop 99’ worldwide character poll are in, and “Naruto” creator Masashi Kishimoto will draw an original short manga following Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage. The poll received an estimated 4,600,000 votes between December 21-January 31, and Minato received 792,257 votes. In a message to fans, Kishimoto said “While trying to make a story that would match the expecations of his fans, I ended up with more pages than i had originally anticipated. Please look forward to the secret story behind Minato’s jutsu!”
– The Beat reports that an exhibition and charity auction of original works and prints donated by 14 artists in memory of Carlos Pacheco raised €3250 (over $3500) for the Spanish ALS Association at the 41st edition of Comic Barcelona. The exhibition, entitled “Gracias Carlos!,” included art from Alvaro Martinez Bueno, Gabriel Hernandez Walta, Emma Rios, Àlex Santaló, Pepe Larraz, Jorge Fornés, David Lafuente, Fran Galán, Aneke, Jorge Jiménez, Luis Bustos, Daniel Acuna, Isaac Sánchez, and Fernando Dagnino. – Via Entertainment Weekly, Penguin Random House have announced Stranger Things: Flight of the Icarus. The novel, written by author Caitlin Schneiderhan, who’s currently serving in the show’s season 5 writers room, is set in 1984, two years before the events of Stranger Things season 4, and follows Eddie Munson as he meets Paige, a producer who offers to help him and his band a record deal. But with no money, Eddie must turn to his dad’s latest “dubious scheme” to get his chance. Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus will be available October 31, 2023.
– Via ComicBook.com, AMC Networks announced a new six-part short form scripted series set in The Walking Dead Universe, with the working title More Tales from TWDU. Scott M. Gimple, the chief creative officer of AMC’s TWD Universe, will oversee the project. In the meantime, Fear the Walking Dead‘s eighth and final season premieres May 14 on AMC, followed by Maggie and Negan spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City on June 18, and a plethora of more Walking Dead content on the way.
– Deadline has revealed the trailer for White Bird, based on R.J. Palacio’s Wonder follow-up of the same name. Bryce Gheisar is set to reprise his role as Julian, who has struggled to belong ever since he was expelled from his former school for his treatment of Auggie. Julian’s grandmother, played by Helen Mirren, tells Julian of her life in Nazi-occupied France in the hopes of transforming his life. Directed by Marc Forster, White Bird will be in theaters on August 25, 2023.
– Finally, Netflix have released the full trailer for the second season of Sweet Tooth. The trailer depicts Gus in captivity and alludes to General Abbot using the hybrids as a cure for “the sick.” Meanwhile, Jepperd and Aimee team up to save the children from the Last Men. Sweet Tooth season 2 will premiere on Netflix on April 27, 2023.
