– Marvel announced “Star Wars: Inquisitors,” a new miniseries by writer Rodney Barnes and artist Ramon Rosanas (“Star Trek: Day of Blood”). The book will follow Darth Vader’s Inquisitorius as they pursue Tensu Run, a new Jedi character, who seeks to rebuild the Order. It was not specified when exactly the series is set, although Nick Bradshaw’s cover indicates it takes place between 14 and 9 BBY (years before A New Hope), as it shows the Ninth Sister from the Jedi games (Fallen Order and Survivor) with her prosthetic arm. The book marks the first time any Star Wars spin-off has used the title “Inquisitors.” Issue #1 will be released on July 3, with variant covers by Alex Maleev and Walt Simonson.

– Meanwhile, Steve Orlando and a host of artists are teaming up on “Annihilation 2099,” a weekly five-issue series releasing in July. The comic will introduce 2099 versions of Nova, Starlord, Red Hulk, and Silver Surfer in their own stories, and also see the return of Dracula 2099, now the savior/would-be ruler of a foreboding new planet, in the final chapter. Each issue will be penciled respectively by Ibraim Roberson, José Luis, Pete Woods, Ario Anindito, and Dale Eaglesham, who also draws a Dracula back-up in the first issue. It marks Orlando’s fourth 2099 series since 2022, and the first not starring Spider-Man/Miguel O’Hara. The series begins July 3, and will conclude on July 31.

– Furthermore, Marvel will add “Giant-Size Silver Surfer” to this year’s line of Giant-Size 50th anniversary specials. The comic by Mat Groom and Tommaso Bianchi, due out July 10, will pit Norrin Radd against Terrax, and also include a reprint of Ron Marz and Ron Lim’s “Silver Surfer” #80 (1993). The publisher also revealed an expanded edition of Alex Ross’s “Fantastic Four: Full Circle,” featuring 288 new pages of behind-the-scenes material, covers, and more, will be released on October 1.

– Writer Paul Tobin (“Bandette”) and artist Luisa Russo (“Plants vs. Zombies”) are teaming up for “Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands: Land of the Giants,” a three-part spin-off of the 2022 video game that was itself a Borderlands spin-off. The comic will see the titular “Bunker Master” bring together her friends for a new TTRPG adventure, where they must hunt down the giant Hilly the Kid. (Also, Claptrap will appear.) It marks the third Borderlands comic, following two released nearly a decade ago by IDW, and the first Tiny Tina one. Issue #1 will be released on August 14, shortly after the Borderlands movie hits theaters on August 9.

– Oni Press unveiled cover art and a synopsis for Melissa Flores and Francis Portela’s “Biker Mice From Mars” series, starting this July. The ongoing comic, based on the ’90s cartoon, follows the titular aliens Throttle, Modo, and Vinnie, as they try to prevent their homeworld from being stripmined by the ruthless Plutarkians. It will be the second series in the NacelleVerse, consisting of various characters obtained by the Nacelle Company, after the “RoboForce” mini starting on May 1. Issue #1 will have have a main cover and wraparound variant by Dustin Weaver, plus variants by Portela, Juan Gedeon, and Ramon Villalobos.

– BOOM! Studios announced a new “Fence” series, “Fence Challengers: Long Shot.” The seventh volume of C.S. Pacat and Johanna the Mad’s sports romance (not counting the prose spin-offs) sees the boys of Kings Row embark on the State Championships. “As attraction rises between Nicholas and Seiji, the team will face old training rivals in their first match, but MacRob has a secret strategy that turns the tide…” The double-sized first issue of the six-part series will be released on July 24.

– Netflix released the trailer for the third and final season of Sweet Tooth. The final eight episodes of the award-winning Jeff Lemire adaptation sees Gus and friends head to Alaska to find his mother, Birdie (Amy Seimetz), and contend with the new threat of Helen Zhang (Rosalind Chao) and the Wolf Boys, who see him as the key to restarting human births. Kelly Marie Tran will be joining this season as Helen’s daughter and top lieutenant Rosie, as will Cara Gee as Siana, and Ayazhan Dalabayeva as her hybrid daughter Nuka. Season three, which was shot back-to-back with the second, will be released on June 6.

Oldboy director Park Chan-wook is developing an English-language TV version of the film with Lionsgate. The 2003 South Korean thriller, which was based on the manga by the late Garon Tsuchiya (aka Caribu Marley) and Nobuaki Minegishi, starred Choi Min-sik as a businessman who is held mysteriously captive for 15 years, before being released and given only five days to find out why. It will mark the second English version of the cult classic, following Spike Lee’s poorly received remake with Josh Brolin in 2013.

– A day after reporting Pruitt Taylor Vince will play Jonathan Kent in James Gunn’s Superman, The Wrap states Neva Howell has been cast as Martha Kent in the film. A Tennessee-based actress, Howell has appeared in projects like The Resident, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Long Haul, Logan Lucky, and Novitiate, but her casting is a clear continuation of Gunn’s decision to choose decidedly less famous names for Clark Kent (David Corenswet)’s adoptive parents. Superman releases July 11, 2025.

– Finally, Studio Ghibli will receive an Honorary Palme d’or from the Cannes Film Festival, marking the first time the award has gone to a whole group. Co-founder Toshio Suzuki, 75, stated, “We have truly come a long way for Studio Ghibli to become such a big organization. Although [Hayao] Miyazaki and I have aged considerably, I am sure that Studio Ghibli will continue to take on new challenges, led by the staff who will carry on the spirit of the company. It would be my greatest pleasure if you look forward to what’s next.” Miyazaki was also named one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people of the year; you can read the accompanying piece by Guillermo del Toro here.
