– Following a successful debut pilot last year, the first season of Amazon’s The Tick is now confirmed to launch on August 25. The Tick, created by Ben Edlund, started out in self-published comics before moving to animation and, eventually, two different live action series, making it one of the most successful and recognizable independent comic creations of the past 35 years.
– Mark Millar and Goran Parlov’s “Starlight” has been in development for almost three years now, but its first major casting news has just now broken: Sylvester Stallone is reportedly the ‘front runner’ to play Duke McQueen in the film adaptation. It is worth noting that the film has no director attached and is still likely quite far off. But this marks Stallone’s third comics-related role, after playing the titular Judge Dredd in the 90s, and his role in next week’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
– Speaking of next week’s big release, Marvel Studios and Doritos have teamed up to create musical snack bags as part of their Rock Out Loud campaign to promote Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Each of the bags have a built-in cassette tape deck-inspired player that plays the full soundtrack from the film. These amazing limited edition Doritos will be available for consumer purchase on April 28 only at Amazon.com/Doritos.
– Due to scheduling conflicts becaues of also being a part of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, Ross Butler will not be playing Reggie in season 2 of Riverdale. The role will be re-cast, as there are big plans for Reggie’s character as the show progresses.
– Sony’s seems to have finally pinned down a release date of December 18, 2019 for the new Masters of the Universe film. Details are still murky around the project but director McG (Terminator Salvation) has stated he fully intends for the film to be his next project and intensified production efforts are imminent. He-Man and the rest of the Masters were most recently seen in DC’s “He-Man/Thundercats” miniseries, which wrapped up last month.
– WWE Superstar The Miz – aka Mike Mizanin – has voiced his desire to play Booster Gold in a DC film. Mizanin got his first break due to appearing on MTV’s The Real World, and has acted on shows like Psych, Clash Time, and in the WWE Studios film The Marine 4.
– M. Night Shyamalan will return to the world of Unbreakable and Split for an upcoming film titled Glass. Glass, named for Samuel L. Jackson’s Unbreakable character’s nickname, will continue Shyamalan’s exploration into the ‘real life’ aspect of superhero comics, and will open in 2019.
